Good point.

Which raises the question:
Couldnt the licensors just allow the one single game to be licensed? (in this case, avalon hill's dune whose mechanics were licensed, but not the theme due to obstinance of the herbert estate noted above.)

Dune at that point was a known quantity, even after Herberts son went mucking about, treating the IP like Lucas did for hisnstar wars prequels. Its not like there was anything in the ancillary books that made the theme of the novel dune irrelevant.

This certainly falls in line with what the mainstream game companies have been doing for years. I'm not surprised by this at all. I'm waiting for the day Hasbro/Parker Bros. /Milton Bradley absorbs one of these titles into its library.

I had to click the link to be sure this wasn't a joke. Could they really not be bothered to change the font on Carcassonne? I appreciate brand recognition is basically all that's going on here but com'on! I guess StarWars Catan is being withheld to next year.

. . . or writes a couple of checks from petty cash to purchase the last two big companies in the genre and absorbs damn near all of them.

And they won't produce a new version of Epic Duels?
