This was supposed to be the subject but would not fit:
Puerto Rico < 5-player Magic The Gathering with everyone having a pure blue deck

I played Puerto Rico again last night after about 4 years of not touching it. It's still the same piece of chaotic, random, passive-aggressive crap I remember. Sure, I could analyze the hell out of it and maybe get a little enjoyment by winning, but why bother for such a dull game. Sorry but I was put through a 2 hour session last night and wanted to vent.

I think Puerto Rico is an okay game, and I wouldn't turn down the odd game, but I always had the odd feeling that what I was doing was not "optimal." It also has that annoying Euro game feeling of having to pick the "least bad" option instead of the best one. Every turn feels like an exercise in figuring out which move will set up the next player the least.

I'll play the odd game here and there, but in general, it hasn't aged well for me at all.

Visually, the game is a disaster. There's no board to look at, and the building tiles have no art on 'em. Graphically, it's equivalent to a chit-based war game that has no map. Horrible.

When a board game is less graphically interesting that the card game that's based on it, something has gone very wrong.

The upcoming French language edition by Filosofia (which is also getting a lot of flak by fans for its ever skyrocketing prices) is getting spiced up a little bit. Link

Why waste time analyzing Puerto Rico? The player going after the weakest player wins.

There's no real theme in Puerto Rico and no real strategy (if you agree about the turn order problem).

Incorrect. It's the person sitting to the left of the weakest player that wins.

I love that game. I just think it's really frustrating (for most) in 5p. In 3p, it really shines.

I can always count on Barney to be in my Euro corner. However, PR is not a game I really ever want to play again. I feel like it's horrendously dry and that comment comes from a Knizia fan.

I play this from time to time. It's a gaming buddy's all time faaaaaave. I broke out carthaginian's re-theme though:

More colorful and way more informative.

Is San Juan and the plantation area big enough? Both seem much smaller, no?

it's beautiful tho.

Why the hell does that guy have all those dubloons?! Spend them! WHAT A n00B!

I would pay good money (1200 ms points at least) for Puerto Rico on XBoxLiveArcade
