Cult of the New worn off on 7 Wonders?

It's amazing to me that people still buy most games when a place like Board Game Exchange is around. I partnered up with them specifically because I think that 95% of all games are "experience" products you'll play very little after the first initial "wow" is gone, and then you have something that 'used' to be cool sitting on your shelf collecting dust.

Sure, there's a ton of exceptions to this, but the games you play a lot, and often, are far less than those that start out like true love and end up like OJ and Nicole.

I felt that 7 Wonders is kinda like the set collecting from RA, but with card drafting instead of a really cool auction going on to get the sets. After a lot of plays, I still feel that, except I think that RA is a helluva lot more interactive and 7 Wonders is crap.

I find it quite surprising how much love 7 Wonders gets on this site. I played it twice (with 7 players) and absolutely hated every single minute of it.

Maybe it helps that I play with my family and not hardcore gamers? I would play with my gamer friends, but more than likely would opt for something more complex that I couldnt play otherwise.

This one strikes me as a game in the Memoir/Dominion/Small World mold -- designed more to generate long-term revenues with add-on products than to stand on its own as a game.

you're right that it's similar to Ra in many ways. I prefer the drafting mechanic to the auction tho. In the end I think i see it as a fun and quick way to play Through the Ages

7 Wonders is a harmless bit of filler fluff. Thankfully it has been spared the zealotry of the obnoxious Race for the Galaxy crowd, who defend their little filler with tons of icons as being the next Chess. Until it reaches that point, I can tolerate 7 Wonders, though it is not a game I ever need to own and am perfectly happy playing someone else's copy. If it's in front of me, I'll play. If not, oh well.

I think 7 Wonders is a pretty good game for what it is. I like it much more as a filler than SmallWorld.

As with most euro filler, if they just added a little more meat to the bones, they could be five times the game they are with only a little more time added per game.

It's ok. I like it as a lunch time game at work but outside of work I don't think I'd every play it. It will never be Settlers but it can be TTR if it wants. I like TTR a little more but that's probably the plastic pieces. 7 Wonders is clever in some ways and the scaling is cool but it's just not what I would describe as "fun". I never speak during the game, it's not like we're arguing or discussing the tableau's around us. The whole experience despite being clever is just kind of dull.

It's nice it scales... but so what as well? We're all gamers here I have games for 3 for 4 for 5 for 6 and for 7. I don't need one that does it all. It is tough, admittedly, to get a decent 5-7 player game that plays this fast but we're playing it with 3 or 4 so that's not even an advantage really. We're playing it at work every day and I want to talk the guys into going back to puzzle strike, which was infinitely more fun then this thing.

It's the quietness that bugs me most. It feels studious. Everyone just stares at their fucking cards, there's no meanness and if there is it's all under the table; "Whooo, he wants this science card but I'll use it for a wonder instead" .... the guy won't even know until the game is over so you can't gloat or anything.

It's ok. Good even, but not particularly fun.

JonJacob, I agree with you for the most part. I will say that our games have been a little more lively though. I love to talk trash when I hate draft on someone. This game is fine, but I've only played it about 4 times. I think it will wear thin, so I won't be buying it. I would probably rate it a 6, maybe 6.5.
