Samoko, that,s funny cuz in my experience, it's always the military guys that win with the peaceful guys trying desperately to make up for that 18 point gap somehow.
the pharaoh race I find to be full but the military one is exciting and optional (might be way it's exciting cuz you have to decide if you want in on that war or not)

My expereinces mirror Barney on the military front, but our groups are small - only 3 or 4.
That being said, if I'm sitting next to two "peaceniks" on the other side of that table you describe, how can I resist taking a single military card to earn big points by the 3rd age?
The choice of military is one of my favorites because it's like UGH, if I just draft this one card we'll be even and I wont have to worry - DID HE JUST DRAFT ANOTHER MILITARY TOO? GAH!
I am not saying that games with boards and army guys arent more civ like, but this is a fun card game too with a civ theme. You folks and your options - MY options are this or TTR or Dominion (both which I do enjoy, but not as much as 7W lately).

Yeah, maybe it's a player count thing; all of my games have been with 6 or 7.
The big reason I find the peaceful players win it out is because they don't get caught up into the whole spend 8 cards for ~possibly~ 18 or so points, which is more often than not far less than that. Once a military rush starts, just about anything else gives more points per card.

in my experience, it usually take 3 cards to get the military win. SOMETIMES two, sometimes four, but often 3. That gives a full 18 point swing on your two neighbours. It's insanely good value.

The first couple of games I played Military always won. Kind like the first couple of playings of Through the Ages. But in the last bunch of games played(with between 4 at 7 players), military is one of the lowest scores. I've pretty much ditched even picking up military to save me from getting a -1, as it profits me more to go for things like green card combos. YMMV.
As for the OP, I guess I just "liked" seven wonders. It's a good game, but not a great game. I'll play it on occasion. So my Cult of the New never really kicked up on this title.

Played a few games of this last night with the expansion. Mostly 3 with one 4 player game. The leaders shift the game around a bit. It gets a bit crazy. Not all the leaders are = though. Some are nuts, some are meh. It is a pretty cool addition to the game that only adds a little time. For us it is a solid filler game that we can play after the main event with however many people are there.

Yeah - really curious about Leaders. Won't *need* to get it right away, but it's almost a no brainer since we do quite enjoy the base game and the price point of $20 online will be fine.
