Quinns' Hard Copy

The overtly inestimable Quinns of Shut Up and Sit Down fame put out some blog entries on why video gamers should be playing "analog games," IE. board games: Hard Copy

Not necessarily geared for the already initiated that frequent F:AT, but you probably have some friends that could use some instruction. It's an interesting take on evangelizing the hobby to those that already know they like playing games.

Re: Quinns' Hard Copy

Quinns used to be a writer on RockPaperShotgun. For a time he babysitted Rab Florences weekly cardboard children column, which was basically boardgame evangelism to PC gamers. It worked, it convinced me to buy ascending Empires just under a year ago and launched me into this hobby (and look where i ended up, skint and on FAT). It's a shame Rabs column seems to have stopped.

Oh, I'm a regular reader of RPS and have been for a while. Both Rab's Cardboard Children and Quinns' Not Cardboard Children were primarily responsible for:

1) me getting into this hobby
2) steering me away from dry Euros that I had played at friend's houses (though, to be fair, I knew I hated Age of Steam after one play, confirmed after a second)
3) deciding to finally get my own game night together after life forced me to quit my D&D group
and
4) finding out about F:AT

I owe quite a bit to those guys.

Rabs later columns took some strange turns, some of which were bizarre and others that were hilarious. But I think his television career consumed all of his time and it really wasn't working when his column stopped.

But Duke, you make a good point that Quinns is basically continuing to do what he had previously done on RockPaperShotgun before he left. It's obviously his passion to convince others what a great pastime board gaming is, and it definitely worked on me.
