I'm willing to go about $25, including gas, a six-pack of cider or a bottle of wine, and maybe some cupcakes. I won't drive more than about 30 minutes to play games, ever.

Game night is taxing when you have two kids...I still manage to make the Hellfire Club pretty regularly, but I rarely get to hang out with Frank and the old Swamp Castle gang. At least not after Scarlett arrived.

The thing about it is, I used to get ill if I missed game night...now, I'd really rather be home with the kids anyway.

Nothing focuses your gaming time like having kids. I still make it to about one game night a week, maybe two, but I'm WAY more jealous of what we play at that point. If I suspect I'll hate a game, I'd just as soon head home than sit through it.

What's it worth to me? I have no idea how to put a dollar amount on it. I do know that when I go a while and get no gaming in, it does wear on me. It's how I unwind, so even a small game of Carcassonne with the wife or a solo game of Mage Knight will help me relax a little.

Hmm I'd say $50/ night. My kids are of the age that they're occupied with either personal projects (Steampunk related crafts) or dance (6 nights a weeks).

I only do Cons in-town so that would cover my entry fee.

Really, I'd probably take the cash to buy more solo games to play when I can't meet up with my group.

Deal breaker. I would rather give up game nights then give up playtime.

I don't see what her being asleep changes.

You crack me the fuck up. I wish you were a PS3tard as opposed to seXBoxer.

For me, it's ~40$, 40 minutes, and no sex for a night. For the wife and I to head over to my buddy's house, we have to drive over, pick up the sitter, drive back. Drive to buddy's house. Game until tired to death. Come home, get sitter, drive her home, and then finally, come home.

And the wife is always asleep when I get home.

Ahh I feel your pain. The problems of marrying Japanese-Cherokee pilates instructors.

Jesus you're a pessimistic fucker. You were like that at GenCon, and at Trashfest, so I'm calling your ass on it.

You could've been born an ant. Could've been born with a disfiguring congenital defect and have to deal with people staring at you constantly. Could've NEVER been born, hence you'd never feel a lady's soft lips on your KAWK. Dude, life is a precious, wonderful, beautiful thing. The ride is only dark if you're wearing dark glasses. Me, I lived in my car and took showers at the YMCA for a while. I've had broken hearts, been stolen from my parents, and I still take the time to marvel at the wonder of something as simple as the colors on a butterfly, I shit you not.

I'm sick as fuck, like, motion sickness big as hell 24/7, choking down puke on a hour-to-hour basis, for 5 months now. And I still think that life is beautiful and wonderful.

Happy birthday, you wanker! :)

Granted. I agree with every single thing you've just said. Now, do what I do for a living for 11 years when the industry average is 5 and we'll talk again. Think about it a bit before you answer. AND back to out regularly scheduled programming!

billyz, I've been doing for 7 years what industry average is 2. I'm sure it's not as bad as your situation but I find other ways to enjoy life. It's a pretty sweet ride overall.

Fallen, since I'm the one delivering the goods, you should man up and get a 360 for your birthday, father's day or whatever religious holiday is coming up (festivus?). They're dirt cheap now and we could have a BLAST playing ME3, MW3 and Magic 2012 and 2013. Oh boy! I think they're only like 200 bucks. Just turn a few tricks or something.

Listen Frenchie. You don't know about goods cause I save mine for private time. Get a PS3 and see...

Re: How much is game night worth to you?

Game night is almost the only time I ever see any of my friends. It's not like every game night is crazy fun, but I'd still not want to give it up for less than $400 a night. I think that's roughly the dollar amount that would keep a smile on my face.

Re: How much is game night worth to you?

Some of you seem to imply you have sex with your wife every night. If that’s the case I’m glad for you guys; and your wives.

A local drunkard in my hometown once said:
“If you’ve been married more than 2 years and still have sex with your wife more than once a week, you are a pervert.”

I was single at the time I heard this and this seemed outrageous. Now being married for 6 years and having 2 kids, I kinda see what he was getting at.

Also just before reading this thread I created one about temporarily "loving" one's job. After reading Billy and Barney's discussion, the thread seems inappropiate. This was a coincidence, like I said, I wrote it before seeing this discussion.
