Fantasy Flight and Asmodee merge

Wow, I sure am surprised by this one. I would have thought that just raking in the cash every year would have been enough for good 'ol CP. I guess it just proves what I'm always saying: "Everybody wants to be Zev".

Lots of changes on the publisher landscape over the past few months. Asmodee is setting themselves up to be King Shit of the Boardgaming Universe.

Yes sir, CTP is most likely the big winner in all of this, and my hat goes off to him. He and I have had our differences both in public and in private in the past but I absolutely respect him and I think he's really kind of done the impossible- start a hobby games business from the ground up and make it really, really successful. I mean, look back at the early TI stuff and then at Imperial Assault now. It's been a long time coming (almost 20 years!!!?!?!?), but I certainly hope that he is getting a nice fat Christmas bonus, so to speak out of this deal. Smart businessmen know that the way you really make money off your company is to build it up and then SELL. I had a friend that started and ran a very successful retail company doing a few million in proft annnual and he turned around after about 10 years and made more money in a single business merger than he did the entire time running the business.

It definitely seems tha tin recent years FFG has drifted away from the traditional board game product...even sort of away from further expanding its core product lines in that category. It's been lots of LCGs, expansions and X-Wing. Aligning with Asmodee gives their brand name some big board games heft that frankly has been quite lacking in recent years.

Maybe soon paparazzi will photograph CTP and Zev cruising the streets of Monte Carlo in matching Lamborghini Countaches, drinking liquified gold and wearing suits made of $100 bills.

They kind of already are...they're HUGE in Europe.

It is interesting that we're seeing the big players consolidating like this...companies are maturing and are actually able to to do business like this now.

Read the press release. That's not a "merger", it's a sale. Asmodee just bought the IP and US branding, and FFG products just got injected into Europe with the greatest of ease.

FFG/Asmodee should release a commemorative edition of Acquire with games companies instead of hotels.

I haven't liked any Asmodee games I've played, I hope they don't rub off on FFG.
