The end of an era...one of the greatest runs in the history of the industry and one of the coolest guys ever to sling games. It ain't Z-Man without Zev.

Yeah, I just read that too...wow. That is really something. The times they are a-changin'.

Welp, we'll always have a Steve Jackson Games headed up by an actual Steve Jackson.

You never know. Steve might be ready to hang it up and get down to fishing.

Something tells me Seal Team Flix just got less likely to be printed. It's a shame to see such an innovator go, but God bless the man. He's brought joy to hundreds of thousands over the decades and the man deserves to do what makes him happy. Best wishes to the King.

Now....what's this about FFG?

Re: FFG and DoW. What a waste of strong brands. Asmodee doesn't even register with me whereas those two were the forces to be reckoned with in the board game industry.

I completely agree. When we say "FFG style games" that means something. When we say "DoW quality production" that means something. When we say "Asmodee" I think of a lot of great (and terrible) games that have no unifying brand or idiom. It's like saying a band is a Sony Entertainment-style act instead of a Sacred Bones or Dim Mak style one.

It'll be interesting to see how this level of monopolization/homogenization pans out...I think it will keep those companies in business, but I think we will see an even greater (if that's possible) exodus of gaming dollars to Kickstarter and other crowd funded titles.

Replied by Msample on topic Zev is leaving Z-Man Games!
Does Asmodee have a US based office ? If so, wonder if they are going to consolidate operations there.

I agree that this is a bad move. Esp given how much shelf space FFG gets in brick and mortar these days, why fuck with it right now ?

I'm wondering something similar. I'm especially curious what it means for their in-house designers. I wonder if more FFG designers will go the way of Kevin Wilson and take their game to smaller publishers.

Wow, yeah, that seems like a terrible move. Many good points regarding there being a difference in a FFG or a DOW title. Also, Msample is correct, our large LGS has a big junk of wall devoted to Fantasy Flight Games. What will this mean for that FFG Center up north? Renamed? No longer run FFG specific events, but DOW and Asmodee junk as well?

I've run FFG over the coals through the years, but really enjoyed their run from about 2000-2007 - with the high mark being about 2005. Regardless, I'll miss their logos at the game store. I've long considered collecting all the FFG silverline sized games, but am trying to avoid the collector bug.

Interesting times... FFG is phasing out....while GW is coming back with their Specialist Games line.

Everything is always great and nothing ever changes for the worse when a big company takes over a unique and vibrant smaller one that built its success from having its own identity, right?

(Cue the Imperial March.)

I can't wait for the next Asmodee North America coffin-box!
