The kids are big into collecting them all these days, and it's fine for my son (9) and I. However, with my daughter into Pokemon as well now she wants to play in this world but is way too young (5) for the card game.
Fortunately, there looks to be some board game from a few years ago that she may be able to play. Maybe not. I have no idea. It looks like there are several versions of it though. Anyone know anything about it? Worth a look? Or should I put some Pokemon on Heroscape bases...

It's ok enough. For a Poke-fan like my boys were, it was the bees' knees, they asked to play it all the time. There are some pretty nifty things about it, especially for a mass-market game. You get a sense of starting weak, grabbing Pokemon as you go until you get more powerful, then challenging the game's end bosses.
It's creaky in spots, though. You need a massive fistful of cards to win at the end, and a pair of young ones playing against each other can result in some hurt feelings as the game features battling and targeting/stealing your opponent's Pokemon and other things. If you suspect your young 'uns will have a hang-up for that sort of thing, quietly take out those cards from the deck before you play. That will actually speed the game up as well, because these cards really are only there to screw over opponents, and won't necessarily get you any closer to being strong enough to win.
I've heard the II and III editions did away with the overworld-style board; if so, that's an extreme pity as the path through the board and around the different towns was always very thematic and I liked that part a lot. Gave an ultra-light but solid RPG vibe, very much in tune with the video game itself.

Thanks for this...I think I'll look for the edition with the world board. Thanks!
Also, what about the Pokemon Jr Adventure game? Looks like some sort of rpg targeting young kids. Looks to be fairly cheap online.

II appears to still be ok in terms of the overworld map. III did away with it and looks way more abstract. I only have experience with the first black-box version.
