Cthulhu rant

Cthulhu rant was created by Schweig!
How come every player's cthulhu character who has been to The Great War carries a Mauser pistol? This was a frigging officers' weapon, it couldn't just easily be picked out of the mud. You actually had to kill an officer to seize a Mauser and this wasn't quite that easy task - I guess.

 Because the rest of the game is so accurate and realistic.

This statement has to be enshrined in the geek hall of fame for soooo many reasons.

I assume that you're talking about the C96, aka the Broomhandle Mauser, because "Mauser" is just the name of a German gun manufacturer. The Broomhandle Mauser is a very stylish pistol that was used in a surprisingly high number of countries. Over a million were sold between 1896 and the mid-30s, and it was the official firearm of the Chinese Army for years.

Yes, I mean the Mauser pistol. I don't get it. I also don't think there was a American licensed built version of it. Who needs that thing anyhow, when the Browning HP and Colt .45 pistols were much better weapons?

The C96 Mauser had a detachible rifle stock, which made it more flexible to use and to store, and it was supposedly a very accurate weapon. And I'm not any kind of expert on firearms, but I suspect that any gun with such enduring popularity was probably fairly durable and reliable under battlefield conditions, much like the AK-47.
