Not particularly. For all the developers' statements that the art was too low-res, the art actually looks perfectly fine at 2x. It's the text that's the problem. It's playable, but it's pixellated. I've been playing with it at 1x.
However, the app is definitely going Universal (which looks like a bit of a redesign, too, not just improved art assets), so if you're keen to get it now, you won't be stuck at 1x or 2x forever.
King of Dragon pass is a fantastic, unique game. However it also takes a long time to play and can be very frustrating since large parts of the game are hidden from view and partly beyond your control. If you enjoy that style of game and can commit the time to it, it's definitely worth your while.
(For the record I played it like crazy for about a month but eventually got annoyed by it and stopped. But I plan to give it another shake sometime - probably after the update. And what's better value - an $8 game you play a lot for a short time, or a $1 game you keep hanging around but never look at?)
Oftentimes defeat is splendid, victory may still be shame;
Luck is good, the prize is pleasant but the glory's in the game!
