Re: Summoner Wars (iDevice)

I don't understand why Tundra Orcs are on the top of the ladder. I can't do a damn thing with them. I'm much better with the two Elven races.

Re: Summoner Wars (iDevice)

Don't underestimate the Undead. I got fucking owned by a custom Cultist deck with Malevolence. He sacrificed his zombies for magic and then proceeded to use every trick in his deck for summons. Anyone who says the game is mostly luck is full of shit. I'm only winning 25% of my games and it's pissing me off. There are some real card sharks out there.

It's definitely a game of deceptive depth. But Dukester, feel free to send me another Neuroshima invite. I'm always up for that.

Oh, I never turn down a chance to play NH — it is on.

After a fair amount of AI warm-up games and 20 or so online matches, I'm not sure the Orcs are the problem. The problem is that SW is an amazingly dull game. Move 2, move 2, move 2 ... fire, fire, fire. Repeat. Play blatantly obvious event cards. Move 2, move 2, move 2. Yawn. Play other games.

I really do not see what all the fuss is about. The app is great; Playdek did its usual fine job. But the game is nothing special at all. I wasn't expecting it to live up the hype — no game could have lived up to that pre-release hysteria — but I was definitely expecting ... more.

I think when I'm done running that n00b Cloudy into the ground (again), I'm hanging it up. I've been turning down invitations left and right, which is a pretty bad sign, now that I think about it. My iPad is full, and there's at least 25 other games I'd rather play.

I agree. Every time I play this game I think to myself "why aren't I just playing Magic?". And not the shitty Magic 2013 videogame either, I mean the real thing.

SW haters, y'all cray-cray.

I don't understand why Tundra Orcs are on the top of the ladder. I can't do a damn thing with them. I'm much better with the two Elven races.

It's because people don't know how to take 'em down...they do stupid things like put a 3 dice striker up against a Smasher. Or stand around their walls. Or worry too much about the freezing card, which sometimes doesn't even matter and just gets you to throw magic away.

I've been in like three matches over the past day or so with Cloaks versus Tundra Orcs, and there's some stuff there that totally bungles the TO's MO. Scrappers versus those backbone Smashers is pretty much a free teleport ride.

That said, I also just got completely destroyed by somebody that used Fury and literally took my Summoner down in a single turn, just furying the shit out of him. Lucky rolls, but it happened.

I think a lot of people use them starting out because they get their ass kicked by them early on and sign on with them. I wouldn't be surprised if the trajectory is to DL the game and play the Phoenix Elves (who really require a lot of finesse to play well) against TO and get wasted, then they either buy the full set or just the TO. I see the TO played more than any other faction, with Cloaks and Vanguards being the least seen.

This from the guy who hated on me for daring to state I don't enjoy the thoroughly bland, boring Ticket to Ride? Man we have different definitions of "dull".

Yeah, that might mean something to me if I remembered it. Sorry. Play what you want; I won't judge.

Meanwhile, I'm having to chase down that n00b Cloudy for 18 turns to try and end a game that is clearly over. So that's another strike against SW -- far too often, the end-game is truly awful.

Still, I'm glad I got the chance to finally play, and I'll say again that the app is great. It was definitely worth the coin. The game does absolutely nothing for me, though. YM, as the kids say, MV.

Re: Summoner Wars (iDevice)

I's just forfeit, but that would put a forfeit on my tally. Which, in the long run, really doesn't matter. I literally CANNOT win.

Re: Summoner Wars (iDevice)

I will admit that it is kind of funny that you're frozen, have nothing in your draw deck, and have no other units on the board.

Basically, I need to roll 3 or higher four times. Then this farce can end.
