Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.
Tablet ignorant Santa needs help.
Do y'all have any other suggestions? This is only for general home use. Movies, games, books, etc.

You need to pay for quality--you don't need to pay for Apple quality, but don't skimp on the tablet. There is some real dogshit out there. If you are committed to an Apple ecosystem, get the new iPad Mini with Retina display.
NEXUS 7 is the bomb if Android is your thing. Also consider a Kindle HDX 7". I would get 32GB minimum in all cases, but you can make 16GB work if you don't mind management (i.e. deleting stuff to make room for stuff).

I considered that, but I assume the lifespan on any of these tables is, what, 18mos? We can get by if the Nook is the way to go for now.

I have a Kindle Fire that works very nicely and costs $140. I'm much more of a reader than a gamer so it's the right product for me personally. I'm also much more comfortable with Amazon's long-term survival prospects, so my purchased movies and books (and a few apps) are more likely to come pre-installed on my next tablet and the one after that and the one after that. For what it's worth.
All that said I think Apple is going to be around for a long time too. But I think entry price for them is $349 plus tax. Didn't make sense for me since I'm not much of a video gamer.

Folks around here are saying that the Kindle web browser (silk) is terrible and a main reason they prefer the flexibility of the Nook to use chrome, firefox, etc.

Update -- just installed Firefox Aurora on my Kindle, took about ten minutes, appears to run beautifully on it.
