I had the good fortune of spending a night with Mike Gray, who just returned from Essen, and brought several treats from abroad. Of them all, the two that most interested me were Coup: Guatemala, and Beasty Bar.
Beasty Bar is like Guillotine, in a way, where you put your animals in line, each of which have special powers, and attempt to enter a seedy nightclub. When there's 5 animals in the line, the first 2 get entry, and the last gets kicked to the curb. The art is really quite good, and the theme is VERY different, and cool.
Really fun game. Check it out.
Coup: Guatemala is the same as Coup, but with far more cards. There's 4 card categories, and you choose 1 of 3 and 2 of the last, for a total of 5 cards. There's a big pile of cards, with sets of 3 matching the starting card choices, and so you then pull all 15 cards to make your deck. Otherwise, it's Coup. So, it's really "Coup+, with a better theme". Looked great but we opted to play TransAmerica instead, which I was kind of warm on at best. Tepid, perhaps.
