A Turbografx Christmas Extravaganza!

What a surprise from my brother on Christmas when he gave me an Everdrive for my Turbografx console! Now I have all the Turbo and PC Engine games and I'm in retro heaven!

The Turbografx was always my favorite system. I am at heart a Shmup fan and the Turbografx is no slouch in this genre.

My favorites for the system are Devil's Crush , Alien Crush, Blazing Lazers, Splatterhouse, Super Star Soldier, R-Type and Cyber Core

This weekend I had an R-Type Tournament with my brother. I didn't last long. My respect goes out to anyone who has beat that game!

Man, I had one of those and LOVED it. Did you ever play Silent Debuggers?

I love my TG16 and PCE Core Grafx. Super underrated console in America, and has so many interesting games. Parodius, Blazing Lasers, Raiden, Tatsujin, Military Madness, Legendary Axe 1, and the forever awesome 5 player matches of Bomberman 94 and Dungeon Explorers.

Splatterhouse was one of the first Turbo games I beat. That disgusting thing crawling on the floor in the early game still gives me the creeps!

I got a TG-16 the Christmas they came out. I actually snuck it out from where my parents were hiding it and played Keith Courage on the sly before Christmas. I _loved_ that system, there were some really unique titles for it and they were bringing up some of the more marginal Japanese stuff back then. There were a couple of real dogs too (China Warrior), but I played 'em all and loved 'em all.

Devil's Crush is AMAZING, one of the best for it. Lords of Thunder was one of the top shmups, on the CD player. Ninja Spirit would be the other that I would slate as the best on the system. The Bonk's games were great. Legendary Axe and its sequel were great. Dragon's Curse (Wonderboy III!) was awesome. Gosh, so many good ones...Final Lap Twin, Parasol Stars, Psychosis, Super Star Soldier/Soldier Blade, Gate of Thunder...Ys...

There WAS a TG16 emulator for IOS that was actually really good, but I can't find it now. Must have gotten de-listed.

TG16 is really the only legacy system that I think I'd actually buy again if I found one at a reasonable price with a bunch of games.

It was called Gamebox and it was released by Hudson a couple years ago. But it was taken down last year.

Ahhh! Kind of cool Barnes is a Turbo Fan! Barnes and I are polar opposites on everything except games, that is kind of cool! Keeps the Universe in balance!

No eBay APP ID défined in Kunena configurationThere's this one game, man did I play the living fuck out of it. Some transforming robot game that was addictive like crack. Sidearms or something like that.

Everyone remembers Keith Courage or whatever but that game was balls. The best games for that was Cadash, and Blazing Lazers. And pretty much anything Psygnosis made.

@Mike:

But personally, do what I did: get an Xbox and Xecuter 2 chip, new bootstrap, and then load EMUs on it, finishing up by installing every arcade game ever made on it.

I can literally go downstairs, turn on my Xbox, load the TG16 emu, and play any TG16 game ever made (Jap or otherwise) using the best controller ever made, the Xbox control.

Or, get the ROMs and play them on your laptop.

I think you are actually thinking about Thexder, which wasn't a TG16 game. Sidearms was a side-scrolling shooter where you were a Gundam-like mech, but it didn't transform. It was kind of a sequel to Section-Z.

No, not thexder. That's the one - the sidescroller where you could get a bunch of upgrades which change the look of the robot.

I also was the one guy who liked Silpheed.

Superfly was it a hucard or a cd? It is most likely Hyper Dyne Side Arms, like you said, but I would be curious to the title. Other games like Blood Gear match the description aswell.

I opted to softmod my wii over hardmod my xbox, but nowadays I use my Ouya just as frequently. It not only runs most Gen 5 and before titles, it also runs DS and Dreamcast games. Controller adapters are what drove me. And if ulao can ever get the Blissbox 4 play done, itll be the be all end all adapter.

Some of my fondest multiplayer gaming memories are playing 4-player Dungeon Explorer and Moto Roader on the TG-16. The music for Dungeon Explorer is ridiculously good and some of those tunes are still burned into my brain 23 years later. The same goes for the music in Devil's Crush. You could usually count on great sound in a TG-16 game.

Moto Roader was a great top-down racer with player elimination via running out of fuel. If you lagged behind the game would warp you near the front in a bubble but it would deduct a unit of fuel from your tank. You also had to drive into a refueling lane once per lap to refill (you just had to duck into it for a second to get the refill). It could get cutthroat if someone had a big lead and warped your straggling ass right past the refueling lane, ensuring that you'll run out of fuel and be out of the race in short order.
