How about this early Z-Man title? I understand it sorta plays like a multi-player CCG, but there are no booster packs and is totally self-contained.

I enjoyed the Shadowrun CCG in the 90's. It was multi-player with each player building a deck of runners that would try to take objective cards played in the middle. This looks very similar with its locations.

So, two questions. One, is this the best Arthurian legends game (I'm not too sure on the Shadows Over Camelot cardgame) and Two is it simply a good multi-player cardgame?

All you need to know. This is a good 2 player card game but Shadows over Camelot beats it handily as "one of the best Arthurian Legends games" I am aware of. This game isn't all that similar to Shadowrun CCG in that you're trying to get objectives...there's more to it than that. I would argue that's the only similarity and it's disparate at best.

Thanks for the link.

I'm not too interested in Shadows the boardgame, but am curious how Camelot Legends stacks up to Shadows the cardgame.

Wish I could help, but sadly I've never played it (let alone seen it!)

Camelot Legends looks like it will be fun with lots of special powers and whatnot. Unfortunately it ends up being an arithmetic exercise and it seemed hard to dislodge cards from their prime locations before the game was over.
In other words, my opponent plays card X on location Y which gives him a bonus or special ability or something. It wasn't clear how to get rid of it once it was there.
It's been awhile but I really wanted it to be good and it just wasn't. It is however possible we played it wrong.

There is a review for it here on FAT with some good discussion Camelot Legends Review

I wanted to like it, but, like most of Andrew Parks early work, it was way too mathy, in a boring tedious way. Turns quickly became chore-like, particularly as the tiny icons for each of the 6 stats where difficult to distinguish from each other.

The Shadows Over Camelot card game is not good. It's really kind of a memory game.

Camelot Legends is pretty good, but you'll need to play it regularly for it to really work. The cards eschew good iconography for lots of text that's hard to read from across the table. If you can get over that hump it's pretty fun.
