I decided to Gamefly it first...it came in today and I played for about an hour and a half.

It is 100% Star Fox. As soon as I heard that weirdly muffled "good luck", I was sold.

It may be a little too retro in spots, the first level is almost 1:1 from Star Fox 64 but with a different boss. But when you see those bad guy monkeys taunting you again, it kind of doesn't matter. It is the same skill-based shooter it always was.

As for the controls, they aren't nearly as bad as the Internet has made out. The problem is, just like with the original Star Fox, it doesn't hew to standard video game control schemes. I think that having played the 3DS remake made a big difference for me because I immediately got using the sticks to move and motion to adjust aim. The thing with switching screens is sort of odd in all-range mode. I think what people aren't getting about it is that the TV view is supposed to be like another camera so you can see what is happening from a different angle- not so you can use that view to pilot accurately. It takes some getting used to, but 20 minutes into it, it felt fine.

I've only seen one of the other vehicles, the chicken mech the new Arwing turns into. It controls better than the Landmaster in the old games. Pretty fun.

Oh, all the original cast is back, love that.

So far so good, I will probably pay to keep it. The rental doesn't have the SF Guard disc, but you get it if you buy.

If you don't love Star Fox you have no soul. Man we used to play the crap out of the SNES and N64 versions back when I was in 5th grade and high school respectively.

Take from this what you will, but one thing that was common among all Nazis is that they did not like Star Fox.

I'll take that as an antisemetic comment
