Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)
Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.
Shovel Knight!!
Yeah, yeah, I'm late to the title, but per Mr. White's schedule I'm only a few years behind, so pretty up to date.
This title is amazing!
Truth be told, I sort of sat on it as I wasn't a big fan of the 8-bit era. Poor controls, flickering sprites, slowdown...all added up to a frustrating time. I spent those years digging into the SSI Goldbox titles on my C64. Had this been a more 16-bit styled game I would have bought it sooner. However, I'm glad to say that none of those pain points are in play here and I'm sure the game is a bit more than 8-bit. There seems to be a lot more parallax scrolling here than I recall from the old NES cartridges.
Anyway, I'm sure everyone here has played it already, but my son and I just finished it on two player mode, and I'll actually probably go back in solo mode and look for all the secrets we missed. Plus, there's the fun Plague Knight campaign to play through.
Oh, and Yacht Club games is also going to put out Spectre Knight and King Knight campaigns as free downloads....as well as some sort of Smash Brothers style, single screen, multiplayer battle royale mode. This title keeps on giving.

With the fun we had here, I was thinking about downloading one of the older Castlevania or Mega Man games from the eShop. Now, I think I'll pass...there's way more to explore here and it's neat going through Shovel Knight's world with the various characters.
Oh, the retro manual with all the background, enemy bios, moves, etc is a fantastic touch. My son loves that book and flipped through it all the time during play. He would call out the enemies by name as we'd encounter them on screen. Not sure why companies moved away from those sort of booklets.

(though thankfully they omitted the flicking sprites and slowdown)

By that I mean that it's precisely as hard as it needs to be, just tough enough to make you do it over and over, but not so hard that you don't see what you need to do and can't get there with some practice. I don't know if there's a proper word for that quality, but Shovel Knight nails it.
Awesome game, one of the best indie titles out there.

Also, the challenge mode is a ton of fun. I'm digging these.
I am really, really impressed with this title.

I fired it up on the Wii U last late. Seems great and I look forward to playing through it this summer.

This title continues to be the best value in video gaming...and we still have the upcoming King Knight story and vs mode.
