Landstalker, and old isometric 3D game

I just started playing this game (see: www.vc-reviews.com/games/megadrive/landstalker ) yesterday on the wii virtual console and I'm quite liking it. It brings back memories of those old 3d isometric games on the Spectrum (and other platforms of the time, but a Spectrum is what I had), like Ultimate's Knight Lore ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knight_Lore ) and many others, or Head over Heels( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Head_Over_Heels_%28video_game%29 ), etc...

I remember really liking those kinds of games back then but really sucking at them... :) especially when I had to remember that up meant up-left or up-right, etc... those games were better played with a joystick or game pad...

Still, it's a good and playable game, and I find it funny that instead of trying to minimize isometric confusion by using references or shadows to clearly show where floating platforms are, it uses that confusion to create puzzles :)

And don't forget the Sega Saturn sequel of sorts, Dark Stalker!

Landstalker was a fun game. The same team created Alundra for the PS1, which is more Zelda-like in gameplay and takes place in a different part of the same world as Landstalker.

I didn't know Alundra was related to Landstalker.

I played Alundra many, many years ago.

I never played Landstalker but I remember the Gamefan guys were all over that game, talking about it constantly.

The only real isometric game I ever got into was The Immortal. Man, what a hard game that was. There must've been 1,000 death animations.

Yeah, I remember playing that on the Amiga in the 90s, but getting so frustrated. It was a very nice looking game, but too hard.
