Re: Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012

Oh, that's weird. I guess because I chose that I played lots of Magic before it put me on Planeswalker. Cool.

Re: Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012

oh right, my bad. If you say you know Magic already really well, it puts you on Planeswalker so you're all good.

I finally unlocked all cards for Machinations (good luck with that, btw). I'm now on my final deck, Unquechable Fire which is a red burn deck and seems really good. Like Tier 2 for sure.

I am coming for you, Barney! As soon as I get out of this f'ing Atlanta airport......you better start looking over your shoulder on the leaderboard.

Re: Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012

I finished unlocking all 100% of the cards in all decks last night so now the only reason I have to play is to protect my leaderboard ranking. I'll leave it where it is for now and if someone passes me, I'll jump in there to start playing again. I haven't played any ranked 1v1 but if one of you guys gets on there and starts up a leaderboard, I'll throw my hat into that ring as well.

Like I said Space Ghost, I don't think the single player leaderboards are very robust. I'm top of my friends list (long) and I feel zero pride in my score.

Re: Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012

Barney -- well, jump back on there and start playing again. I am a rocket to the top!

I ran the guantlet with Wielding Steel, but overall I don't like the deck. I hate, hate equipment for the most part.

I started my second deck, Mechanations (sp?) on the Revenge campaign. So far, I am 5-0. I like this deck much better. A little more nuanced to play, but it does some cool things.

I think the single player leaderboards are fairly robust. It is kind of like a chess score --- but the points are fixed for when you when (I think it is 14 pts for a win on planeswalker -- and I assume there is a deduction for a loss?). I don't know if you get points for beating a challenge or not. I think the key skills are a little bit of deck building and how/when to mulligan, which seems to be different with each deck. Some decks take more skill to play than others and I assume that is the case throughout, so far I have only tried the two decks (I am kind of a completist like that).

I haven't played any 1v1 yet, but I don't know if I will. I don't have gold and my xbox playing is sporadic enough that I don't know if it is worth the money every month.

Oh yeah - welcome aboard, Barnes.

Re: Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012

OK, so I've unlocked the decks for Jace and Gideon but haven't played in the few days since. What deck would be the best to go for next? Dabbled in green at the beginning, but that deck sucks ass.

Edit: SpaceGhost, what's you beef with equipments? I get that re-equiping them sucks your tempo, but the deck has enough Kor Outfitters that it's not too bad. At least they fixed the inherent problem of creature enchantments and getting 2-for-1ed. Or is it just that the equipments in the deck kind of suck, because most of them do.

Re: Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012

Yeah, I bought this last night. I liked the last one so I figured since you guys were on the leaderboards...it's really too bad I missed Space Ghost at the Atlanta airport. I could have assassinated him and we wouldn't have to all be staring up his ass on XBLA leaderboards.

I just played a couple of the campaign matches. Wielding Steel is cool, but god damn it, mana is feast or famine. I've been flooded out so many times with it. But I'll mulligan a hand with to much land and then wind up mana screwed for the entire game.

Planeswalker difficulty is a touch too difficult, Archmage is WAY too easy.

Re: Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012

I still get in a couple of matches a night. Hate to complain given the price, but two things really bug me. One is, I think the ideal approach for unlocking cards would be one unlocked card per unique opponent defeated by that particular deck, but you can play them in any order; this would require UI changes to show which opponents a particular deck has defeated. The other one is not being able to select random opponent in free play (as far as I can tell). The combination of these two items is that it makes it too easy to build up my mono-blue deck by continuing to pick on the mono-green deck.

I have a large collection Magic precon decks. A block would usually put me out over $125. I would easily pay $30+ for this game (+ DLC) if it had a more rewarding single-player experience.

But $10 to dick around with a bunch of decks is certainly cool. Certainly more value than I've gotten off of most of my implusive Steam purchases.
