Christopher Hitchens RIP

More
16 Dec 2011 17:12 #110249 by ThirstyMan
I am sad to announce the death of Christopher Hitchens.

Christopher was a well known British essayist, speaker and advocate against all forms of religion. He helped start the rise of anti religious activity in Britain and wrote several books on the iniquities of all religions.

As a debater, he was unequalled and never afraid to debate either the Christian right wing or the Islamist factions. His arguments were solid and sound. I am not a writer and others will write better obituaries than me but I did meet him once and he certainly impressed. He will be missed.

A great iconoclast and contrarian. He didn't just oppose religion. If there is a God after all I'm sure she'd be delighted to debate him.

A said day for the Free Thinkers in this world. Letters to a Young Contrarian is still one of my all time favorite books.

I totally agree with Bullwinkle, Hitchens was 100% AT.

Many of his arguments are mine. Let's hope somebody is brave enough to step in his shoes and does as well.

There's only been three "famous people" whose deaths have ever made me feel genuine emotional pain.

Vonnegut
Carlin
Hitchens

He isn't "in a better place" or "at peace" he's just gone, and that's too bad.

Edit: don't take that last line as a swipe at the Cyanide and Happiness post

Yeah, not a swipe. The world took a loss with Hitchens death.

Oh, I wasn't taking a shot at that either. Didn't even notice, it was just me sharing my view on it.
