Favorite game night food?

This thread is a request from my wife. She asked me to ask "Your online game friends" what their favorite game night snacks are. She can cook, so they don't just have to be buy off the shelf things.

What say you? We usually have between 5-8 people on a normal game night. One probably coming up Saturday and she's deciding what to make.

I don't have a favorite game night food, but I dislike messy foods that will potentially get all over game components. Even if the games belong to somebody else, I hate to see the cards get greasy, or shit dropping on the board. Cheetos are the anti-christ, but even pizza can be bad, if it's greasy enough or the toppings become droppings.

I was assuming that it would be eat then game; otherwise, go with the Elwood Blues Diet: dry white toast.

Chocolate and Beer are the two most common things consumed at my game nights. Sometimes people bring home-baked stuff, usually cookies. I'd say baked goods in general are a solid bet. I've also done cut-up fruit platter with toothpicks to pick them up with so you don't get your hands messy.

We usually do a chili and cornbread. It sits in a slow cooker, so we can wait for an opportune time to stop and dish it out. Into bowls, so greasy fingers aren't a thing

anything that makes people fart. It always makes game nights better.

a cool hot beverage station is always my favourite thing. Being able to get up and whip up a pot of tea or some fancy coffee-type drink is heaven for me.

i hate eating while playing and prefer everyone having a food break together (usually either firing up the grill or going out somewhere for change of venue)

your wife rocks for asking us

Chili or casseroles are good provided the diners aren't drippy slobs. Anything eaten with a fork or spoon means that stragglers can finish up eating and take a break to help set up or play their turns without having to stop everything to make sure their hands are spotless. Dessert finger foods (cookies, brownies, etc.) are okay for later in the night when peoples' turns take longer so hand-cleaning downtime isn't as much of an issue.

My friend always hosts and he makes a lot of chili, spaghetti, stuff like that. Grilling is also a good option in good weather. Tonight we're having pizza but that's only because our group is 4 gamers that can usually be trusted to behave without close supervision.

At TrashFest NW we had regular snacks like chips, dougnuts and pop. Later we had a veggie lasagna.

Some game nights someone has made chili for the group or in the summers BBQ.

I like that I am someone's "internet friend".

Is it sit down and eat, then play games? Or nosh all evening? Or play, break for food, play some more?

We usually take a break to eat. I've done everything from burgers and chili to Mexican Shepard's Pie. Sometimes we order pizza. For snacks at the table it's usually pretzels, chips, popcorn.

Another popular thing to have which I believe is some sort of Rhode Island exclusive shit...is bakery pizza. Some people call em, pizza strips or bakery pizza, or party pizza. Fucking whatever. It's pizza dough and the only topping is gravy. Gravy is red sauce/marinara. Some places sprinkle grated cheese and drizzle some olive oil on it. Oh and it's served room temperature or cold. Regardless it's fucking delicious and people go nutty for it.
