The miniatures are great. The name is kinda dumb.
I've always loved the genestealer cults. And this would go nicely with Space Hulk. Been very curious about these GW board games. I'm sure they're not great but they may be good enough.

GW price is $200 in Canada, but considering there are 50 Citadel minis (including a marine on bike and a terminator, a genestealer patriarch and some other characters/heroes), it's a pretty fair price compared to their minis boxed sets. Don't know about the game, but seeing genestealer hybrids (and aberrants) is very nice. The cult minis could be used for Space Hulk expansions.

They don't fuck around anymore and put the simple kiddie minis in their boxed games to induce you to buy from the rest of their lineup, do they?

They still have those. There's new set called Battle of Vedros sold for $50. It has bunch of orks and s'marines. It's a rehash from an old set, but it was a good set.

Picked a copy up today. Got the Space Marine leader, Ortan Cassius, put together

The board tiles are the nice thick embossed cardboard, double sided. Four of the 16 sides:

Back to putting the other 49 figures together!

Working on finishing up the 11th Space Marine, the biker dude that has ten parts!

Got six of them primed

Looks like there might be some replayabilty since most missions the Marine player has to pick and choose out of the 11 which marines to take and they do vary widely in abilities. On the genestealer side more luck of the draw since the force composition is determined by how the broodmind deck is constructed and what cards are drawn.

I heard it plays like Diablo. Lots of kills. OVERKILL!!! It's a good thing. I've had enough chipping off hit points.

The Marines flip their stat card to a wounded side when they take a hit. They can skip an attack phase (they have one before and one after the genestealer attack phase during a turn) to heal back to unwounded status.

The genestealer patriarch, primus, and magus also have two hit points but don't get an option to heal. All other 'stealers have one hit point but can recycle as endless hordes.

Space Hulk is also all about the one hit-one kill.

But they make it challenging to kill something, except with flamers. In DWOK the 'stealers die by the dozens... marines are truly powerful.

Has anyone been playing this?

The topic of genestealer cults came up during a discussion of a future Necromunda gang and the cultists models in this game look incredible.

I've played every mission it comes with.my favorite is the one where you are doing the action movie thing where you are running from an explosion. The board is blowing up behind you while you are trying to blast through to get to safety.

It's really simple and fast. As mentioned above, there isn't any chipping HPs. Get hit twice, and an SM goes down. Shit gets bad quick but it is more balanced and only a little more complex than Lost Patrol. There are three combat ranges and that kind of determines what wargear your SM/GSC is using for the attack, and there's a lot of different stuff. There are also jump packs, an assault bike and a special ability for each SM.
The GSC player has secret spawn cards that double as event/buffs, so their game is very different. One of the smart things they did was to give SMs two attacks in the round, which balances out the huge number of models the GSC tends to have on the board.

Production is stupendous, of course. The DWSMs are amazing, each one is totally unique and has a distinct character look and chapter-specific detail. I think these are like$25 figures individually. The cultists come in several varieties and the Primarch is awesome.

Yeah. It's expensive, but it's REALLY fun and you get a TON of models. I think any old school GW fan would be impressed with it.

Plus, I'd guess, you can use these GSC models with your Space Hulk 3rd/4th to play a lot of the 1st edition GSC scenarios.

damn, do these GSC models look sweet.

This dude is my favorite. He'd make a great 'heavy' in Necromunda.
