Nah Jeff, I hear where you are coming from. But I think you are missing the point here. These new sets- packaged to look like GI Joe toys and at MUCH lower price points than you might expect- give kids _ownership_. This isn't a way to get into dad's hobby. It's a way for them to get their own sets, to get their own excitement of having a new box of figures and it's targeted at THEM. It's not dad's condensed version of the 200+ page 40k rulebook. It's a two page pamphlet they can read. The paint set is like that too, it's exactly what they need and no more. OF COURSE it's all to market the rest of the 40k product line, but it's an easy, approachable way to get right into it without a bunch of hobby agony. And without dad saying "no, you want to get this instead".

The only thing is that my daughter wants all girls. I told her the option right now, since the Sisters of Battle aren't current, is to do a pink SM chapter or "purpleskin" orks.

I got them painting today using the Reaper learn to paint kit. Bones are terrible. But they are enjoying it. I'm painting the stupid ogre it comes with, I am RUSTY. But we have a little SM kit coming too, I think those will actually be a little easier for them to learn on because the sculpts won't be so muddy.
