September White Dwarf Magazine ...

White Dwarf has been a weekly magazine for the past few years but in September it is going back to monthly. The Sept. issue is supposed to have a Slaughter Priest Age of Sigmar figure and new rules for a number of board games: Age of Sigmar, Stormcloud Attack, Gorechosen, Deathwatch Overkill, Space Hulk, Betrayal at Caulth, Execution Force, Lost Patrol, and Silver Tower.

Yeah, i understand it's a $9 mag that includes the $30 fig:

I believe he'll have rules for use in AoS, Silver Tower, and Gorechosen. Add rules for 9 boardgames and this mag may be hard to come by.

Also, the October issue comes with a free 40K comic and has a Jes Goodwin interview. It seems they want WD to be more community facing again with battle reports, fan custom/paint features, events, etc.

I don't even play these new GW games (yet) and am wondering if a subscription is in order...

From what I understand a pre-order heads-up came out a few months back with a reduced subscription rate. It appears that subscribers got their issue today.

I think it hits newstands Friday.

Good luck!

I just preordered it on GW...going to have to pick it up at a store though, shipping is $10 otherwise. I'll probably wind up spending $10 in time and money driving to Sandy Springs to get it.

Looked at a subscription and its 150$. Fuck that. The Economist and Foreign Policy Combined is far cheaper, and provide far more value.

I will admit, neither comes with an M1A1 Abrams model, though.

I just picked mine up from the local GW. They had at least 5 copies available for general sale. I've leafed through the magazine, and I'm impressed with the changes. Additional rules for a bunch of games, including Deathwatch Overkill, Lost Patrol, Silver Tower, and Betrayal at Calth. More real content than they've had in a long, long time.

I hope this is part of the new direction for GW!

Couldn't help myself, so I went out and secured a copy as well. $15AUD, not too bad given the current rates.

I assembled him for a bit of fun last night. Mind you, it stopped being "fun" about 20 minutes in. LOTS of bits and pieces, in the end it was a bit of a slog. To date, I've been mostly working with 10-20 year-old Blood Bowl miniatures, so I really wasn't ready for the level of intricacy and detail that these modern GW sculpts have been ramped up to! Still, I got there in the end.

Now I just need to paint and base him, and once that's done, find a game to play him in! I had an idea that I could do a head-swap and use him as a proxy for Mighty Zug (a big Human brawler) in Blood Bowl, but the mutated claw-hand with a mini-mouth put paid to that plan! Maybe I'll spoil myself and get Gorechosen when it comes out... :)

While this is true, I think this indicates more how bad WD had become than how good the new issue is. I got it for the miniature and the board game content and I don't regret it because it's a fun new character for Silver Tower. But the actual material in the magazine isn't particularly interesting. The bulk of the sizable page count is still photos of miniatures and thinly-veiled advertorial content for GW product. Most of the game content is minimal: one scenario for Space Hulk, a couple of Silver Tower characters, a pretty feeble variant for Lost Patrol.

There's more stuff for Gorechosen but that's new and it remains to be seen how good it is. The biggest beneficiary looks to be Deathwatch: Overkill which has a whole bunch of new scenarios, but I don't own that so I can't comment.
