They develop, market and start this Battle for Vedros thing and it almost doesn't exist. And now they are doing ANOTHER intro line, Build and Paint. Which duplicates some of the Vedros stuff, but not all, and does not have ANY rules included.
In some ways it looks like what Vedros should have been, but in others it is a step down (especially not having rules). Each of these kits comes with glue, a starter brush and a couple of paints. I like that.
I'll probably get a couple of these sets because they do complement the Vedros stuff well, like the Land Speeder and the heavy assault squad. It says that some of them come with "scenery pieces", which may be worthwhile.
But then again, virtually everything in Vedros (aka Black Reach) turns up in these boxes too. Like the one with the Warboss. And some of the kits are some TIRED ASS 20 year old designs like that War Trukk. I have the Vedros-boxed Wartrakk. My kids call it the three wheeled Jokemobile.
But the big kicker is that it says these will be in TRADE DISTRIBUTION. Not ad hoc, random boutique toy stores or whatever it is they were doing with Vedros. This means that they could actually show up at regular online shops.
So I dunno, I guess maybe this is a do-over.

Clearly the new lines is made by someone without vision. Duplicate models, few incentives to buy multiples, and wrong pictures.

30 Tactical Marines in Mark III (2 half squads with Thousand Sons, 1 half squad with Wolves)
5 Terminators in Tartaros (Thousand Sons)
5 Custodes
1 Librarian/Sorcerer (Ahriman)
1 Leader of some kind (Wolves)

Are these using a non 40k ruleset, so not just like the old WFB scenario packs?
My son is _really_ into clone troopers and such. I know that 40k's space marines would be a very easy sell...

Thematically, the Tartaros terminator and Mark III tactical armor were probably present, but they would probably not have a huge impact within the game's rules. They might allow for a slightly different armament that might add some different offensive capabilities. If they add rules to make the legions themselves play differently (which the Thousand Sons and Wolves would likely have), that would mix it up.
Custodes were not present on Calth, however they would probably add a completely different dynamic to the game.

There hasn't been any mention of rules for Battle for Prospero- I'm kind of just assuming that it's going to be close to Calth (which is a great thing) but I would expect there to be some differences, now that I think about it. Calth is specifically about these subterranean engagements, Prospero will be different.
I think it feels like 40k in the right ways, but it still very much a board game first and foremost. And as far as these kinds of games go- simpler, tactical skirmish games- it's one of the better ones. The rules are REALLY clean, very minimal actually. With just the right amount of complexity added by the cards and wargear choices.
I'd think that any kid of reading age would be able to grasp it.
