I haven't played gws the hobbit game, but I understand it uses their lotr system. I played legends of the old west, also with the lotr system, and it is _very_ good. better than mordheim or necromunda. If it uses that system you're luck.
Edit: I recall many wanting wfb/AoS to adopt the LotR system. I think you'll like it.

You know...now I'm thinking this set and GW's mines of moria would be a great pair and be all the lotr minis game I'd need. I long thought the battle of five armies based on Warmaster would one days be my lotr minis game, but it never hit the masses like these and goes for stupid money. Especially the blister packed units...

Yeah? What's the low down on it? I've never looked into it much.

Edit: iirc, there's a cool activation thing where if you're within so many inches you get some sort of reaction. Damn...I wish I could remember exactly what or how it worked. I remember really liking the game.

This is just the latest in the lotr line. As for this particular set, its OK. The goblins swarm and the dwarves soak it up, as one would expect.
The dwarf models are interesting and a cheap way to get the band. Gandalf is a decent model too.
The star is the goblin town scenery. Otherwise, its a pass.
This reminds me, I really need to put my horde of gw lotr stuff on eBay. I love it dearly but I realize that I'll never paint them or even assemble the thousands of minis that I have on sprue and blisters.
I still have my legends of the high seas stuff, and it satisfies my lotr engine craving.

Playing Legends of the Old West, and the posse's low model count, I thought the system was very clean. LotOW was basically LotR combat with Mordheim campaign bolted on. I would assume Legends of the High Seas isn't much different. However...I've never even seen a LotHS table. What do you play on, ships? Port towns? It's pirate skirmish, correct?
Though I enjoyed LotOW there didn't seem to be enough elves or bolters for the others. That, and the buildings and train I had were a pain to store for how little it was getting played...I sold it all off. Wish I still had the books though. Those Warhammer Historical books aren't cheap now.
EDIT: Do you have the Mines of Moria set?

I only played legends of the old west twice, and while I know there were a few differences to high seas, they were inconsequential.
The play is basically the same, but you do get to use ships and have port royale type ship to ship combat and boarding actions and piratical bombardment of port towns along with land based skirmishes. Tables are like port towns and such.
I'll find the link to my French fleet.

What the heck is that figure in the top right? Is it supposed to be Azog or a really tall dwarf?
