Yes, I think it will succeed in both casual and competitive environments, it has that X-Wing quality about it. It's simple, but there's meat and nifty decisions.

As a whole, it's kind of like Gorechosen where you're fielding a team instead of one guy. The mechanics are all different, but it's that similar style of game. There's a lot of awesome elements though, such as short term objectives you're dealt each round, upgrading guys in the middle of battle, tons of flavor from the units, upgradeable decks between fights (part of the campaign). It was just very well done and very fast.
