WW2 mini rules

WW2 mini rules was created by Pat
What sort of rule sets and scales do anyone use for WW2 mini's? If there are any WW2 mini players out there...

I ordered Panzer Marsch! from England and it seems to scale nicley but I haven't tried them yet - designed for 20mm or 1:72 scale.

I'm not holding my breath on this topic but thought I'd throw it out there.

I wish I could help you, Pat. I'm not much of a minis system gamer but I've seen some WW2 minis stuff that is absolutely beautiful. Makes you WANT to learn how to play.

Maybe some WW2 minis grognards will stagger by and offer better insight than I can.

Well, Flames of War is and looks to remain king for the forseeable future. There's a more skirmish-level oriented set of rules floating around locally that I can try to get the name of, but I think it's a homebrew more than anything. Barring that, for skirmish level play, GW's LotR rules can be used for anything.

Hey thanks just the same Ken. I managed to paint up a shitload of 1:72 scale models and am trying to see which ruleset I should use to get them into action. Simplicity and playability are important due to the setup time.

I've seen FOW and I just can't bring myself to dump $3-$400 into another mini range even though that looks to be the set that would most likely guarantee some opponents at this point. I might just have to bite the bullet (once my 2 year old is done college!). The rules I bought were designed by the Hull
wargamers club and seem quite nice.

Thanks guys.

I'm not a wargamer by any measure - Memoir'44, Tide of Iron, and CC:E is all I can claim - but I followed a link to this Belgium wargamers club who have produced lots of rulesets for different eras, and I have a mate who does do miniatures and his club uses one of them.
I was interested in their 'expanded M'44' system ...anyway, catch them at Tin Soldiers of Antwerp .

Have a look at Too Fat Lardies, two guys who aim to 'play the period, not the rules'. These are played in our club (next to FoW).

www.toofatlardies.co.uk/

They have two sets, one at company level (I ain't been shot mum!), the other at platoon level (Troops, Weapon and TActics). The turns are based on random order of play (drawing cards), with special cards to reperesent national/special characteristics (hurrah tactics for Russians, artillery coordination for late war Yanks/Poms etc).

Better tactical training/control is represented by having more commander cards wich makes it more likely that you can move at a time of your convenience.

The rules have a number of supplements for different theatres (France 1940, Mediterranean, Estern Front etc) and a lot of scenario's.

The rules are supported by an active yahoo group.

It is all reasonably cheap when you order them in PDF format from the site. (5-10 GBP for the basic rules or supplements).

I hope this helps, otherwise, feel free to ask.

check out Two Hour Wargames and their "Nuts" rules set. The rules are more about movement and concentrated fire than FOW which IS expensive. Nuts can be downloaded direct from the company and you can use any models in any scale. I haven't played it but I do run their FNG Vietnam era game as a campaign and it is the best set of rules I have found so far.
