Terminal Directive

It's basically a campaign game/Legacy expansion for the core set.
Up to now, I stuck with original WoTC Starter Packs for my Netrunner, partly for the old skool hipster bullshit reasons, but also because I don't love deckbuilding and can't keep up-to-date with the expansions churned out of the FFG meat factory. But it's undoubtedly one of the best games ever. Having a way to play the game that doesn't require you to know the huge backlog of cards, and allows you to build a deck as part of telling a story, seems like a brilliant idea.

Any thoughts from those who know A:NR better than I do?

I don't really know what to make of it. Making a campaign out of a "traditional" two player adversarial C/LCG? Huh? It just seems fucking odd. Then you have the legacy element which I was never really sold on and still seems like a gimmick to me. You can already see into the near future where people ask, "remember legacy games?". Admittedly, I've never played one but I don't feel like I've missed out. So I suppose you can only play this once(?). The question for me is what percentage of the (large) box of cards is going to be usable for the regular game afterwards and if there's value there. I've already decided that I'm going to quit buying after the reset as I've already got two huge binders full of cards and will have plenty to last me for years. So getting more cards doesn't really excite me that much.

It could end up being cool though so I'll keep an open mind about it. I do love this game a lot so there's that. More info needed.

I think this is a great idea and I'm probably getting this.

I've played Netrunner a lot when it came out, so much that I would dream about it, so I stopped playing for a little while, and then realized that I wouldn't be able to catch up on the meta without starting to dream about it again, so I dropped it altogether.

But I come back to it now and then and try to introduce people to it, which is not easy: the starting set becomes stale very soon, but introducing the expansions is overwhelming. Netrunner doesn't seem to have an area between "just the base" and hardcore, and this might be the answer.

It's going to have have as many new cards as the other deluxe expansions, all in triplicate and all tournament legal, as well as the in-game card and sticker packs that you open as part of the campaign (not yet confirmed how many of those there will be).

As Hex and Vlad imply, it makes much more sense for a casual player who never really got into tweaking decks or competitive play than it would for the hardcore fans. It gives us somewhere to start/restart. I am also not excited by the Legacy idea in general, but Android was a storytelling game to start with and I feel like it works for this. Also I'm much more likely to get through a campaign with a short 2-player game than I would be with something like Seafall.

Sounds like it could be ideal for a pair of gamers that regularly hang out and play two-player games, especially if they enjoy CCGs without getting overly hung up on the desk design aspect. I enjoyed the un-tuned starter decks from the original Netrunner and would love to get this Terminal Directive set, but only if I had a reliable opponent.

They lost me at Legacy. Just not interested in that at all.
