Trashfest Northeast 2014: The Official Thread

Ok, a quick Trashfest NE update:

I went to reserve the two rooms we used last year and was told that they are already booked for the Saturday of that weekend. Three months out and in November I would have never suspected that. I guess the fault is mine for assuming they would be open.

Not to worry. The current option is that we use the "Lounge" for the whole weekend. For those there last year, this is the room next to the bar with the pool table and "Cheese Bowling" where we were on Friday night. Some drawbacks are that they are reluctant to open it before noon even when I offered to pay a person cash money to come early both days. Second, we'll have curious members (not too many but some) that will be walking through. And no kitchen so it'll be delivery food from one of the three or four places locally that provide that service.

Also in such a confined space, the Heroscape Tournament would be out.

There is an alternative option and that is to rent the "Carriage House" which is the outbuilding right by the gate used to host the Lodge's bingo game. It is a large space with a kitchen of it's own and semi-private. The drawback of course is that it costs a significant amount to rent for two whole days. If I can get 30 attendees willing to fess up $20 each for the weekend it would be a wash or close to it. And there is plenty of room for a HS Tourney.

The drawbacks are that there is no bar meaning BYOB (which is not really a big deal) and the risk of me eating a large amount of the cost.

The main point is that while it will be on the same premises, the actual room we use is in question. No big deal really.

Can you "take donations" for cans/bottles of beer? Pretty much all the public game nights I run I buy a case or two of PBR and people put money in a bucket next to them when they grab one. It's cheaper than bar beer but I still make a little profit that I use to pay for the shit that comes up/give more money to the space we're using.

If we end up BYOB, I think most of us will save a shit ton more than $20 on drinking for the weekend, so I'm all for it.

I'm down for whatever. If you need people to commit for $20, count me in for that.

20 dollars is fine with me. Maybe you can get that set up in a paypal system too---but like you said, it's partly an attendance thing and it'd be better not to have you get fucked over. BYOB doesn't make much difference to me.

Just bought plane tickets, so one way or another I will be in the beautiful Hartford area, regardless of the form this takes. I come in Friday at around 5 and leave Monday around noon.

Hey Repo, got any more info on this event? Just curious as it's only about a month away.

Friday night: The Lounge by bar after 6:00 pm. I have a healthy commute with new job but I will get there ASAP.

Saturday: I plan to rent the outbuilding which is large and relatively private. Times and such still need to be firmed up. I will have the facts in a day or two.

Sunday is back to lounge.

The event is happening, it will be fun as hell, you must come Egg as we all really enjoyed you being there last year. Peg may cook dinner on Saturday or we may have Chipolte or giant Subway. Yet to be determined.

Games that will be played: Heroscape on Saturday for sure. Tournament style if enough people are interested.

Starcraft on Sunday.

Gary or anyone else flying in let me and Repo know your flight information so we can put you on do not fly list (no just kidding). I think I can probably swing down and pick you up from Hartford Airport on Friday.
