Steve Avery is to board gaming what Metallica is to heavy metal.

Dude fell in with Tom Vasel, started hob-nobbing with publishers and designers, started fancying himself a game designer, and the next thing you know not only does he have a successful Kickstarter campaign but he also has the hubris to appear in the game himself as a character on the cards. It's ridiculous.

He used to be such a down to earth guy, now it sounds like he is in full rock star mode, flaunting his marital vows and probably drinking heavily at what should be family gaming events.

I intend to write a tell-all biography about him to be titled "Ass Up on Euclid Avenue". I have a lot of shocking anecdotes to share about boardgaming's newest celebutante, including the "hobo beans incident", the whole "I don't play economic games" scandal, and the Diplomacy meltdown that nearly ended gaming in Atlanta.

Board gaming's biggest new celebrity involved in a sex scandal!?

Why was there no mention of it in the latest Superfly Inquirer?

I want my money back!

Dave (Roswell) felt like some Maclemore, so we recorded his Thrift Shop lyrics and now we have the Superfly Circus Supercast Theme Song:

I spent the nights with Dave Roswell eating buttery foods, drinking a bit, and catching up with old friends that I hadn't seen.

Here's what MY Gencon Nights were like:

Based on Matt's experience, perhaps that should be Cinemax.

I did see a brief blurb about Gale Force 9 picking up the license for a SONS OF ANARCHY game. Love that show, hope they don't screw it up.

The fuck could they possibly do? Retheme "Thurn & Taxis" into a pick-up & deliver game about guns and dope?

Next up, the BREAKING BAD edition of "Scotland Yard." Can you find Heisenberg before he floods your neighborhood with crank and turns your suburban houses into HAZMAT zones? Fun for the whole family!

There actually is some potential for a drug dealing game from a mechanism perspective. Think about higher ups in The Wire and the complex (and deadly) criminal and market game they're playing with one another.

I'm midway through watching the fifth season of The Wire right now, and have been pondering how to translate the show into a boardgame.

daveroswell wrote: Interestingly enough, I was more impressed with the artists section of the dealer room than most games. Although, I must agree with Pete: that disc game was nice. Also, Wreck Age was pretty damned dope: a post apocalyptic mini game with continuing story. I was more impressed with the simplicity of the game than most everything else (though the minis were really nice).

If there is any disc flicking game that is an autobuy, it would be Crokinole. It was bizzare; I saw more disc flicking and dexterity games/ptototypes than I ever have before.

Thanks for the kind words about Wreck age, GenCon was kind of a blur who ran your demo?

And strangely enough I just played Crokinole with my father and sister on Saturday for the first time. I am apparently pretty great at that game. Going pro soon I hope.
