You Got Some Essen Suggestions for Jur?
some excellent suggestions there. I'm now longlisting them into this geeklist.

I will be there for 3 days, so ample time. I won't be able to play all of them, but mostly I can get some explanation or look at the game being played.

Yeah. When going to Essen, don't refer to yourself in the third person.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question
If it was good enough for Julius Caesar, I think it is fine for me.

Sadly, some of your suggestions, like Ta-Seti, will not make it to Essen, but they are on nevertheless.
There is some stuff from Greek and Indonesian designers that I am very interested in, and I have my eyebrows raised about Londonderry: The Walled City which apparently doesn't expect people of Irish descent know what that was really about.
Not on my list but worth the mention is that Heads of State, probably the least inspired game design of its age (Thurn on Taxis with 'assassin' cards), has been re-released as Royals. Don't be fooled!

The former is a much more varied and complicated version of Coup and probably worth getting. It has 25 different roles and you play with 5 per game so their is tons on variety and there seems to be a counteraction step which I think takes it beyond just blocking. Seems like a fun game but extra variety doesn't necessarily improve a game. You're also going back to a six player limit since it doesn't include any Reformation-like structure, though you could easily just increase the role count to allow for more players. I'll look at ordering a copy since I don't own Coup anymore.
Onward to Venus looks like a fine game but I don't think it's going to be a classic by any stretch. It's a basic area control game over 3 variable length rounds. It's not dissimilar to San Marco but it adds in an extra layers of production and semi co-op conflict which players can use to manipulate incentives. I'm not sure of the audience for this as it looks too complicated for family gamers, has an unappealing theme for the BGG crowd and has too little chrome for ATers. With all the 5 tribes/lap dance furor I do wonder how they'll respond to something that is a tongue-in-cheek take on Heart of Darkness style colonialism.
My enthusiasm is tempered.
I'm pretty sure I read that Uruk II will have dual language (eng/ger) cards but doesn't have an English-language publisher. Read into that whatever you like about the quality of the game.

Reading rules ahead of Essen sounds like proper preparation. It also upsets the volunteers who try to explain the rules as well as they can (having read them for the first time 10 minutes ago).
