THIS, THIS A THOUSAND TIMES. Folks, the USPS is becoming a hostile place for flat-rate shippers. You know that big kiosk in the USPS that has all the "flat-rate" examples and lingo on it and is filled with boxes? MANY OF THOSE ARE NOT FLAT-RATE BOXES. There are boxes labeled "Flat-Rate" and boxes which look essentially exactly the same and stored there that are "Postal boxes." They will lose their shit if you try to use them as flat-rate boxes.lj1983 wrote: all of my stuff is shipped out, had to freaking fight with the PO about whether a box was flat-rate or not.
Be mindful and bother the shit out of them about this. It's nefarious.
Got me A GAME OF THRONES from Chapel. Looked like the USPS set off a stun grenade in the box itself as chits were everywhere. But the kids got it all organized and I must compliment FFG on a surprisingly effective box insert!

Flat rate is tricky. You can ship a square box game in a flat rate box with minimal packaging, and I totally recommend it. However, book case games can go in a regular priority box and sometimes it winds up cheaper than flat rate by several dollars depending on where it's going.
I've never seen one of those legendary board game boxes.
A trick I like to use is to just go to the automated kiosks. You avoid the PO staff screwing around, and you can do fun things like accidentally mis-measure your package to avoid the size surcharge. I send stuff via normal priority in a flat rate box sometimes. I've not had any problems e with it.

Gods, I wish that were an option. The kiosk here is broken 90% of the time. The one time I saw it working there was a lady there mailing something like fifteen packages from her home business. And taking her time with it.
