FS: The Others

It's a solid game, you just mistook it for a different one.

Is this that '7 Sins' game? Wasn't there some hubbub about in only including like two 'Sins' in the box?

There was some silliness related to some arbitrary number value in the game title, yes. Anyway, if you like the idea of a 1-vs-many tactical strategy game with some pretty cool minis, this might be a good buy.

campaign rules?

It's not a campaign game. It's a game where 1-4 players throw characters at the opponent until they all die. Win or lose, most of the "good" players' characters should be dead by the end of the game.

I'll toss my hat in and say that The Others is a very compelling game. I don't think it gives the greatest first or second impression. In fact I didn't really start enjoying the game until my third or fourth attempt. I think it does some downright brilliant things in the 1 vs all style of game. The way that the Sin player doesn't have any actual turns is initially off putting, but actually kind of perfect. At times it gives the game a staccato ebb n flow that can feel off putting at first. Still it creates this sense of dread for the heroes as they never quite know what or when something bad is going to happen.

I don't particularly love the theme/artwork. It's very 90s Hellraiser-y and not at all unique (I guess it stands out in boardgames though). However, the actual themes of desperation, self sacrifice and corruption are INCREDIBLY pervasive throughout the entire design. Eric Lang may have created the ultimate 1 vs all skirmish game with this. Like many of his games, I think with multiple plays the strengths of the design come through more clearly. It's also one of the few 1 vs all games where both the heroes and the bad guy can play balls out without pulling any punches. I love that.

Whoever buys this from Barnes is getting a pretty damn good deal.

I will say this- I think you are correct about it innovating the one against the rest concept very much for the better. It's the rest of the game that's the problem.

Since you have forced me to concede a point, I will reduce the price here to $60 shipped.
