Games Workshop gaming is like its own thing.

Maybe even moreso than say the traingaming or warghaming niches. I mean, a train gamer will likely play train titles from multiple companies. As will the wargamer.

I don't think it's unreasonable to think there are people that play GW titles....and pretty much nothing else. No Warmachine. No Infinity. None of that stuff. Playing GW tabletop doesn't necessarily mean being a tabletop minis gamer in general. Total assumption though, but there's enough variety within GW titles you could never need to stray.

You and I just need to set up a courier route. I will get it out to you tomorrow!

Yeah, GW gaming is really it's own thing...but like I've said before, I really like that right now. I like that instead of going into a game shop and being bombarded with 500 titles and all of these mechanics and settings and concepts...you go into the GW store and there's really just a few games and they are all in two settings (well, three if you include Middle-Earth). All of the AT hullabaloo over setting and narrative...but NOTHING and I mean NOTHING comes close to the setting and narrative of GW games. Like, it's a big deal when they release a certain kind of shield upgrade or whatever because of the rich history and storyline of the games.

I also really like knowing that getting a GW product always means- almost without exception- that you are getting something that is quite literally the best of the best. And I've enjoyed flipping my random, unplayed games and turning them into miniatures for ONE game that give me a ton of options and choices and WILL get played either by me and my kids, me and a couple of friends I've impressed into GW service, or me and somebody at the GW shop. There's a surety that what you are getting with a GW game is not a "one and done" sort of thing, you'll be playing and adding on to it possibly for years to come. And then there's the fun of building and painting all of this stuff, of having these little "pleasure projects" to work on when you're not playing. There's just more long term value there and greater rewards than chasing the latest/greatest thing to fall off the Kickstarter production line.

Its great that you've gotten the bug with GW again dude, but seriously, this is nonsense. Most of the GW "lore" is cliched derivative fantasy sci fi trope crap. And you know it. You don't need to try and justify if if you enjoy it, "Brother Barnes" (lol)

Oh sure, it's a lot of dressed up space opera/epic fantasy...but show me another non-RPG game system as completely committed to its lore. Betrayal at Calth and the Burninf of Prospero are treated like HISTORICAL games, with storylines, characters, materiel, and events consistent with the established "kayfabe" if you will. It matters that the marines in the Prospero box have Phobos pattern bolters there as much as it would for the Germans to have Tiger tanks in the late war. The effort to create a mostly consistent and complete history is something no other non-RPG game comes close to. So yeah, of course it is derivative. But I'm willing to read through a 30 page background book in a GW game...I can barely get motivated to read flavor text let alone the couple of paragraphs that describe a Terrinoth game.
