Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)
Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.
This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.
Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;
Two games enter! One game leaves!

Richard III is very good though, and I'd like to get another shot at it.
I think one of things that's really apparent here is the culture of origin of each game. Japanese culture is much more detail oriented, and Warriors of God's phase order has that in spades. Prepositioning troops prior to claiming new leaders, managing the risk of existing leaders dying, it's really a very impressive ordering of the tasks each turn so that the chess half of the game is every bit as interesting (and more challenging) as the maneuver and combat half.
Richard III is much more straightforward, much broader brush strokes. It's an American design. With luck I'll get another shot at this at Trashfest Mid-Atlantic this coming May, because I liked it.

I only played Richard III once--and it was fine--but it's just the same old Columbia block game system grafted onto the Wars of the Roses with some period-specific tweaks. I'm content for Hammer of the Scots to be my favorite and only game from that system.

I'm lukewarm on Columbia Games.

I think this sums up my feelings on Columbia in general. Their insistence on sticking to basically the same recipe pasted onto a different theme robs the designer of innovating enough to set the games apart from one another.

6-0 for Warriors of God.
Though I figured WoG would win, Joan and I are surprised this was a clean sweep. I would have thought that RIII's quicker playtime would have given it the nod for _somebody_.
A few comments on Columbia's designs. I do agree that we could see more creative games out of the block system, but I kinda like their system. I suppose it's like how some dig the C&C or Attack Wings...lots of flavours of a similar system. So, playing an A-B-C block game is cool with me. But, yeah maybe if they published more titles they'd branch out the line a bit more.

Even if it goes the full 12 turns, WoG is tops a 3 hour game, and often much shorter.
