CollectionDome - Small vs Large, baby!

Small. It's like building an RPG character. You have gazillions of choices for skill, traits and perks. But with the level ceiling I have to get my character ready for all situations.

Well by Bull's standards I guess I DO have a big collection, just north of 100 games not counting expansions. So maybe I'm a big fat hypocrite.

I will however continue to act like I have a small collection, just so Michael Barnes and Jeff White will respect me.

Big. For me, 75 is about the sweet spot. I wouldn't want to have less than 50 or more than 100.

I would bet that Michael has a big collection, by most standards. I know that he has a lot of stuff on his forever shelf. I would like to make one of those things Incursion -- so, Michael, if you are reading this, answer your PM.

I own close to 200 games. I've never bothered to trim the fat. It's something I've always thought about, but I've never full committed to.

I think the size of a game collection is relative to WHO is looking at it. If Average Joe Nongamer walks into your house and sees a shelf with 50 boardgames he's never heard of... I bet he says to you, "You've got ALOT of boardgames!". They would think you have an enormous collection. Part of it is because boardgames take up lots of space and part of it is that they're unaware of games outside the usual suspects.

50 is pretty small if we're talking about typical gamers though. I feel like 50 or less is small. 100 is about average. Anything number higher than 150 is probably big.

I have too many games so it's time for someone to setup a Fortress AT math trade.

I can see how collections are similar to posteriors, as Egg suggests. Like the saying goes, some are large, soft and built for comfort, others are small, tight and built for speed.

I'm still a fairly active guy so...

EDIT: I like Sevej's analogy to an rpg character with a ceiling. I feel it. For me, it's sort of fun trimming and fine tuning what you have on the shelf as opposed to just gorging on everything you desire.

Visiting gamer friend: I was reading about a game called... F-something. It had a print run of 10 copies, in 1978, mainly in rural Sweden.
Me: We've got that! It's over there, third shelf along, between the pottery cat and the resin spider woman.

We have something like 400 games. In the event of a zombie apocalypse that trapped us at home with some candles and some tinned food, we'd never run out of something to do...

And also, cardboard is made of fiber, so after all that tinned food, you can still remain regular!

I have about 60 unique game titles (200+ products if you include expansions) but I cull regularly and would be at 100+ if I didn't. When buying, I try to pick only games I think I will end up playing many times over many years (no five-shot wonders for me). I consider my collection to be small, but my wife would beg to differ.
