Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

TRASHDOME! PICK UP AND DELIVERY (sorta)

I seriously don't they'd win in this trashdome, but just a reminder to folks that the crayon rails series is a fantastic set of Pick Up and Deliver games.

When you refer to "crayon rails" to what are games are you referring? I want to check them out.

They are definitely an acquired taste, and really about the company you keep, but I now love 'em. Will play any of them at any time with friends.

Firefly.

I found M&M to be too fiddly; Firefly is more streamlined. Also I think pirates is a boring theme.

Haven't played MoV.

Your older threads hit the nail on the head, in that crayon rails are definitely very thin on player interaction. But they're as distilled as pick-up-and-deliver can get.

Edit - The only real knock I have on MoV is the setup time and the ridiculous amount of tokens you have to sort. I'm not one of these fancy gamers that has little tackles boxes with all the shit ready to go. It takes a solid 25 mins to get this game fully loaded and ready to play. Other than that though...I love it.

The FFG version is prettier, but the AH tokens fit into a chit tray, so set up is a lot faster. I had a lot of trouble adjusting to the FFG version, so I never bought it. Sticking with my old AH version.

Hot damn this is a close one!

Current tallies are:

Merchants and Marauders - 8

Firefly - 7

Merchant of Venus - 7

I figured this would be a fairly close call. I can tell you one thing...I bought the fuck out of Firefly thanks to this!

EDIT - Thanks to MrMarcus voting for Merchant of Venus...things got even tighter! Much like my pants when I'm watching Giada cook Italian delicacies on the Food Network!

Merchants and Marauders, Merchant of Venus

Fuck Firefly in its fanboy pandering hole. "Oh look it's JAYNE'S HAT, EPIC"

I'd have to go for Merchants of Venus, but the proper version not the modernized one. Firefly's fine, but it's more of an adventure game than Pickup-and-deliver. Can't speak for Merchants and Marauders, haven't played it. But the pirate theme kind of turns me off.

To clarify, my Merchants of Venus vote was for the Hamblen ruleset, not the new one.

I gotta play this again. It's been since the Mid-Atlantic Gamefest last May. That's unacceptable.

I too vote for Merchant of Venus. I never understood the love that Merchants and Marauders gets here. It just felt like a weird combo of multiple games and it did none of them that well.

Merchants & Marauders. My kid is still telling me to this day how he once sailed through a space containing three frigates searching for him. Each of them would have destroyed him, if they had found him. Last weekend he managed to capture a freakin' man-o-war and made himself an enemy of every nation in the game. M&M creates stories that you will talk about long time after the actual game has ended. Epic.

That being said, I don't think M&M necessarily stands out for its pick & up deliver mechanism, but rather as a great adventure game, where being a merchant is one aspect and another way to victory. If I think pick up & deliver I usually think about Railroad Tycoon.
