Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

I was waiting to see SW before I made this topic. Now I've seen it.

The Force Awakens, no ifs no buts.

Damn, that's tough. Fury Road is brilliant for its unique vision and virtuosic action and editing, and for describing so much character and setting with very few words.

Force Awakens is awesome, though, and has similarities to Fury Road early on with its visual storytelling about Rey. I love when she's scrubbing that piece of scrap and looks up to see the old woman scrubbing a piece of scrap. Yup, that could be me a few decades from now. Great stuff. And Force Awakens gets major points for carrying so much weight and expectation and still kicking ass.

Slight overall edge to Fury Road, though. Both films are reboots and sequels of a sort, but a fair amount of what makes Force Awakens great has to do with its connections to the past and implications for the future, where Fury Road is just a fantastic standalone experience.

Fury Road I think that both did excellent jobs of reinvigorating old and tired series, but given I watched The Star Wars Holiday Special on Christmas Day, I know that I will watch pretty much anything with the Star Wars label on it. I actively did not want to see a 4th Mad Max film, as I am of the belief that you can never recapture the magic and these things always suck, and so was shocked by the trailer and even more surprised when the movie lived up to the trailer. So it wins by being more of a surprise, having been more original than Force Awakens, and just by being a slightly better movie.

Fury Road

Fury Road probably makes the top 10 films I've ever seen, and even though I like Star Wars none of the 7 make my top 10.

Against any other film I'd pick Fury Road but I have to go with Star Wars The Force Awakens.

Star Wars was wondrous and pulled more at my nostalgic heartstrings, but it's imperfect. Fury Road is perfection.

My vote goes to Fury Road.

Real movies have more than nostalgia in their bag of tricks. Fury Road.

Star Wars has heart, Fury Road has guts. I go by my heart more than by my gut. So it's Star Wars.

Tough choice. Fury Road had heart, but Force Awakens had a football in the groin.

Fury Road was pretty awesome. The Force Awakens had some lazy plot elements, typical for JJ Abrams, some failed stuff like the 1000 year old grandma sage. Yet not a single day has passed where I didn't yearn to be back in the theatre for STAR WARS.

I think Fury Road is a classic that will stand the test of time, Force Awakens is great, but down the line i think it will often be seen as a great tribute act to the original films rather than a classic in its own right.

Force Awakens has heart? Whaaaa?

Fury Road has guts _and_ heart. Force Awakens has the resources of the largest studio making blockbusters today.

Fury Road was put out by its creator, and only director. This director was making some kid films the past few decades. He brought back a franchise no one was asking for in a genre that was thought to be dead...but ended up making one of the finest action films ever made...schooling everyone making action films today. Though similar to other films in the franchise it was a fresh new take that stands heads and shoulders above the rest.

Force Awakens was packaged by very talented mercenaries fully intending to sell nostalgia. It's in a franchise that everyone wants to see in a genre that has seemingly never gone away. This film was almost a note for note reshoot of the finest film in the franchise. All of its 'homages' (being generous) prevented it from distinguishing itself from other films in its series.

After watching Fury Road, it was the only movie I could think of or want to talk about for weeks. 30 minutes after watching Force Awakens I was wishing I had gone to see Creed instead.

Vote: FURY ROAD
