WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!
This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.
Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;
Two games enter! One game leaves!

Two games about building an empire...and then abandoning it. I can't decide which one gives me more of that hollow, detached feeling. It works well, if you are sleep-deprived, on a load of amphetamines, or are otherwise an emotionless zombie. I could just be depressed about Angola.

Why do people think the designer is a jerk? He seems nothing but polite from what I've seen of him on-line.

It's almost not fair for me to vote, since I haven't played Britannia although I have read the rules. However, I love History of the World.
If anyone cares, there is a new, shorter version of HotW planned for Essen that you can preorder. I'm hoping that the shorter playing time helps me get it to the table more often.

Yeah, you're right. BGG lists the playing time on both as 180 min. But, further down on the page for Brief HotW it says 30 minutes per player. The design notes on the Ragnar Bros. page imply that the playing time and downtime have been reduced. So, I guess we'll have to wait and see. I honestly can't remember how long our games used to take but I remember it being pretty long, even with just 4 players - 3 hours or more - which makes it hard to bring out in a single evening.

OK - there has been absolutely no compelling hype for either game, so my vote is ....
