Dice of Arkham

Dice of Arkham was created by mads b.
So I'm working on a small dice game called Dice of Arkham. It's no revolution in the world of board games, but I hope it can be a fun way of spending 15 minutes rolling dice. It's loosely based on Lovecraft and all that, but the gameplay is very much like Grudunza's The D6 Shooters, the online game The Expedition and my own Dice of the Living Dead.

The game is not balanced, the game sheet is not very pretty, and the rules are a bit of a mess. But if you have a spare half an hour, some dice (six d6 of one colour, three of another), and some eight small tokens or so I'd appreciate feedback.

Oh, and the game is for the solitaire print and play contest currently running on TOS. If you like solo games, you might wanna check it out here: boardgamegeek.com/thread/798184/2012-sol...-play-contest/page/1

The game was too easy, so I've made some changes. Just in case you're interested the new stuff is:

1. No more elder sign investigation dice. You don't get jokers any more since they make getting what you want too easy. Maybe at some point during the game one of your dice should have a joker at the 6, but custom dice would really be better for that.

2. Investigator dice can now cost you time.

3. Combat has changed a bit. You now only get two rerolls during combat, and when battling monsters rolls of 1 on the second roll are also locked requiring sanity to unlock. Also I've added the option to flee combat.

4. You can now have a maximum of 9 magic and 9 fight. Only for aesthetic reasons.

5. Leads are now called "keys" (those you are looking for) and "spells" (for the cultists). This change has no impact on gameplay.

The version is now 1.4 and the links above point to the new files.

Edit: rules have been cleaned up a bit, small change on the investigation track on the sheet, and I've also added an untested variant to the rules that should, I hope, reduce the amount of combat while keeping the difficulty up. Same links.

I'll take the liberty of tooting my own horn (not to be mistaken for blowing my own horn of Gondor) and bump this thread. A lot of stuff has been changed and the rules are now easier to understand and use and while it's still not done, both balance and feel is much better. So what are you waiting for - grab your dice, print the sheet, and save the gorram world, will ya.
