So, over lunch today (well, 18 minutes) I made another for Hit Z Road, with removable deck holder.

These are cool. I should do some of these. I have candidates.

I could really use inserts for Merchants of Venus and Mage Knight. I wish that I could make some as effective as the commercial ones, especially the one for Merchants of Venus.

The difference between the commercial ones and your homebrew ones are limited by your imagination. These are easy as shit to make and you can use any materials. Need thinner? Use balsa frame and chipboard.

Oooh, that's great Not Sure! Did you use one or two spaces for the aliens? I use sleeves so I need two.

In that picture, the Flares are the second slot from right, the deck that's sort of jammed in (I made the insert when there weren't as many expansions, and I still have one or two later ones that have never made it into the main box).

I completely guessed at the width of those slot sizes, and so Destiny and Rewards may be sharing a slot, for example. I think I counted the number of card types, and chose to double some up.

The empty well is where the Warp and all the pieces go (bagged per color), it's just the right size for the Warp. The cone is actually a little too long, so I usually put it on top of the rules so it doesn't get bent up. A better design would have a "cone slot", but I didn't think that far ahead.

You can go nuts and do really nice ones, I just knew I had a CE-specific design that didn't take a ton of effort. Hope it helps.

cranberries wrote: Speaking of hot glue, I made a foam core window insert for my office door that I filled with random junk from my shelves, like a Gundam dude and a resin-cast Shakespearean Predator figure. In the process, I learned that my fancy new glue gun heats the glue much hotter than the disposable glue guns of my wasted youth.

I'd still like to get an industrial glue gun for "permanent" jobs.

My cuts look really rough, however. I'm not sure if it's because I used a monster utility knife with a dull blade, or if it's the dollar store foam core boards I used.

You can't really see from the picture. I used my laptop to take it, which creates all sorts of problems. You think they could put a better camera in the Macbook.

Note the water bottle hoarding in the background.

Fun fact: In high school I took an aptitude test and was told I should be a cardboard box designer.

Another fun fact: There was a packaging company in SLC that burned down a few years ago. I feel like I dodged a bullet.

How do you get smooth cuts? Just use a really fresh blade? Mine are a little jaggedy and torn.

Use a straightedge to slice the top sheet first. Very little pressure, sharp ass blade. Then make a second pass to shear through the foam and the back liner. Smooth cuts 99% of the time.
