What Minis Are You Painting?

Let's please give a warm welcome to....The Fighting Uruk-hai.
Now when I started this project, the justification was that the factions are too hard to tell apart as they are unpainted. So, if I was going to paint them, the most important thing was that a person should be able to tell which faction the piece belongs to by just glancing at the board.
With that in mind I have tried to make the assigned faction colors as given by the rule book be prominent on the minis. Thus the dwarves have a lot of brown, the elves light green etc.
Well, Sauruman's faction color is, for some strange reason, yellow. I originally painted the non-elites with yellow bases and yellow shields...and it looked repulsive. The yellow in contrast with the green orcs and silver armor was horrible. Not to even go into how yellow and white are the two worst colors for large areas. They just don't coat well and the base color bleeds through. I blame the war on lead but that's another rant for another day.
So, I decided to give them a new faction color but it had to be a strong enough color to cover that damn yellow. So...black it is.
For what it's worth, Orthanc's color should be white..the white hand and all...but that would have looked no better than the yellow I think.

Finally the project nears completion.
The fellowship is done, two of the three minions of Sauron are done. Only Sauruman remains. Had to repaint his robes. But soon...soon...all will be done and my goal of finishing before ConnCon will have been met!
Huzzah!
Thus I give you Mithrandir...
"I am Gandalf and 'Gandalf' means me!"

Nice job on those minis, Repo. I think they look great and should enhance your game. Are these for War of the Ring??? If so DAMN. I mean...DAMN. Kudos for not getting overwhelmed in the plastic horde, sir.

Thanks. Yes, War of the Ring. All 205 of them.
Hot seat....you feel it too? I'll go get the thinner and a bucket. Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

It has been a long while (years) since I've painted anything, I just lack the drive and desire to paint. In the past though a buddy and I have done a Painting Challenge to act as motivation. Usually it consisted of picking a miniatures game, putting together a list and painting schedule. If you don't hit the milestones of your schedule you don't get to field it in the epic battle that happens at the end. The first challenge was a huge success seeing 6,000 points of Squats battling the forces of Chaos in Space Marine/Titan Legions. The second saw my Necron fleet completed but my opponent faltering and painting one ship.
This year my buddy and I decided to bring back from the dead the painting challenge. He's made some plans to come into town for a weekend of gaming over Labor Day Weekend which is our target date. My part of the challenge this year is to paint up Dreadfleet and we're setting out with the goal of playing through all the scenarios over the course of the weekend.
Here are the results of my first few nights schlopping some paint before dinner. These are Works in Progress and still needed detail on the water/waves and the ship wreckage. I've been very pleased with the results. With a bit of luck I hope to have the scenery painted by the end of this month as a warm up to the ships.

My first drop pod. A nightmare to build. It has this engine part that has to be supported by 5 separate fins, and between those 5 fins I have to fit 5 moving doors, which need to be trimmed to be just fit on the bottom of the pod so the doors can close completely while making it able to "snap on" so the doors don't get loose.
But it is a freaking awesome model... very iconic.
