So, now they decided to show up, but not the way I expected.

My problem right now is that everything is just too dark. I'm priming black, and all of this Khorne red just looks too dark. I may be overdoing it with the Agrax, I dunno. I am really digging Skullcrusher Brass for highlighting the metal on these dudes though.

And you can be messy as you like since you are just basecoating. Then you don't have as hard a time matching up the lines between surfaces. I've done all the Khorne stuff this way and it's worked so far.
This is solid advice for anything like that.

Khorne Red is already pretty dark. Are you washing the whole area or just the recesses?

It depends. In the past I use to paint highlights first, since it's much more easier trying NOT to paint something really thin than painting something really thin.
But then I felt that basecoating the larger surface was taking much more time, and it is the most boring part of painting. Turned out painting the majority of the minis while avoiding to paint small parts is *also* a major time hog. Now I pick the biggest brush when basecoating just sloppily paint them all. It never takes more than 5 minutes a figure.

Can someone remind me the name of the gold color used for stormcasts armor and the gold/bronze color used for Prospero Sisters of Silence armor?
Danke!

Pre-Heresy Space Wolves are done, the Nuln Oil worked out OK after I watered it down a little. They are still pretty iffy up close, but they're good tabletop standard I think. Maybe pictures later tonight. I did the basing a little different, I just used Army Painter Battlfields Ash flock and some cork rocks. I also did the water transfers on them, which I've actually not ever done...even back in the last two miniatures eras I've gone through. I hated them! Has something changed, because now they are way easier to use.
Probably doing the 30k Thousand Sons next, or maybe Geigor Fell-Hand. I guess I could knock out the Custodes, not that much different than Stormcast Eternals.

Michael, did you make the cork rocks? How is working with cork? I have never used it, but was thinking of using it for basing for my Iron Warriors/Dark Mechanicus. I'm thinking of going for a dry rocky desert look and thought cork would work well for a base structure and rocks.
Has anyone used a lot of Rhinox Hide (brown with a reddish look) with Dryad Bark (desaturated brown with maybe gray added)? I'm thinking of doing the Mechanicus in brown with cloth the warmer color that hints at the Martian ancestry and armor plating the darker color which hints at an Iron Warriors alliance. However, I am worried that will be too brown and not enough difference between the two. I don't have Dryad Bark or else I would test it out myself. This would be complicated by possibly using the even redder Mournfang Brown as a base for the inside of the cloaks and the yellowish XV-88 as the accent cloth (again hinting at the IW alliance). So a lot of brown on top of the dark metals. Too brown or something that would plausibly work?
Thoughts?

I have RH and DB and routinely accidentally use one instead of the other. Maybe use those colors with an even redder brown like Tuskgor Fur or Gorthor Brown? I would also think that you would want to have at least a lighter highlight or detail color in their to keep them from sort of blending together.

That's what I feared with RH and DB. The online swatches look different to me, but that does not mean it works the same on a mini. I have neither Tuskgor Fur or Gorthor Brown. Looks like I am going to need to grab Dryad Bark, Balor Brown, Gorthor Brown and Tuskgor Fur and paint swatches to see how it looks in front of me. I also have some terribly primed Necrons that I could use to test out a full wash/highlight series.
