Gaming List of Things to Do

A week from now, I will be starting an 11-day vacation, but winter travel in Minnesota is often a bad idea, so I'm just staying at home to work on various gaming things that I have been wanting to finish:

1. finish painting my Space Hulk figures
2. buy some foamcore and make my own custom storage for my Space Hulk figures
3. use more foamcore to customize the card storage for Arkham Horror and all the expansions
4. try to finish at least one of the several PC games that I have started and not finished
5. complete 24 hours worth of GIMP tutorials that I bought on disc
6. Use that improved GIMP knowledge to work on more icons and card backgrounds for the huge Jyhad expansion that I've been working on.
7. clean up appearance of the two Jyhad expansions that we've already finished and post those online as free downloads.
8. host two days of AmeriTrash boardgaming

I estimate that all of the above will consume seven hectic days out of my eleven days off.

What's on your gaming list of things to do?

1) Actually manage to play a boardgame over the Christmas holiday. There are quite a few of them under the tree for my wife, myself and even our two sons. I'm hoping we can get each of them played at least once. Otherwise this vacation will be an epic fail.

1. A couple of sessions of High Frontier over the holiday
2. Figure out what I'm gonna buy. Am thinking Poseidon and 7 Wonders.
3. Work on the second half of my Gamma World campaign.

I'm going to START my Space Hulk minis - that's something I've been putting off for ages!

Also continue working on my Dungeonquest customizations...I've got that 8 player board that dude made, with my minor tweaks (incidentally, Shellhead, I did that in GIMP). It just needs to be printed nicely. And I want to take a crack at redoing Catacombs, inspired by Zimeon's remake. Damned if I know what I'm gonna do about the artwork.

We have 10 days off. Many games will be played. Plus sleeping late.

1. Play Dune, as I never have.

2. Introduce a group of my friends who are becoming more Euro-prone to Settlers, T&E, and Imperial 2030. If they're going to play Euros, they might as well play good ones.

3. Get a game of Twilight Imperium in sooner rather than later.

1) Continue to pray for a miracle and a call from a university for a job interview.

Wait. That's not gaming.

1. Either teach the baby to fucking well sleep at night, or leave her to cry it out.

2. Actually get to go out, see my friends and play some games for once.

1. Finish painting Last Night on Earth figures for a friend.
2. Assemble and paint the awesome sets of LoTR Osgiliath terrain that I have.
3. Build 3D terrain out of styrofoam for Incursion. While I am at it, maybe also some hills/barrows (these will not likely be completed yet, but let's get at least up to basecoat).
4. Play Turn the Tide with my mom & sisters. Maybe also some Yspahan or something else, if they look like they liked the games.
5. Actually play Here I Stand with my gaming buddies.
6. Make a very simple copy of Dune Express and try that out.

Aw, man. That makes my sob story sound like a cakewalk.

Replace "a university" with "anyone" and that's what Tom and I'll be doing.
" Wait. That's not gaming."
No, but it feels like a bloody crap shoot. :(

It's still early in the process for some schools. Heck, for my first position, I hadn't heard anything and it was late February/early March. I had finished my PhD, had a 1.5 year old and thought I'd be flipping burgers once my one-year position was done.

Then I get two calls for interviews...so it can work out later. Be sure to look at the smaller schools, too...and show how versatile you are and willing to be. That makes a difference sometimes. Of course, you might wind up in the boonies like me, but it is a job!

Hang in there--I'll be thinking of you..I know how that goes.

1. Teach my wife Labyrinth (she's a fan of Twilight Struggle)

2. Do the needed repairs and cleaning on the house we close on this month, so we can move out of our apartment and into the house. Why is this on my gaming checklist? Two words...GAME ROOM!

3. I've got a number of my buddies interested in trying out diplomacy. I need schedule a time and place for 7 people to play.

4. Try out Neuroshima Hex. I got it in a trade about 2 months ago and have yet to give it a go.

Play lots of video games, and certainly some board games as well. I also hope to continue constructing the prototype of my latest board game. I hate the 'building the prototype' stage.... it's a pain.
