I'll start:

"The rulebook needs some work, but..."

"It's a blast with the right group"

"The expansion really fixes the game"

"It's a little long, but..."

Knife fights aren't fun.

Yeah, a while back I tried to get Ghost Stories back out... started looking at the rule book, and said "nope"

The rulebook one is the killer for me. If I can’t remember the rules, and the rules are longer than 4ish pages ... nope.

Mansions of Madness. The rules were okay, but the setup was a pain and play was frustrating. I've heard that 2nd edition app fixes everything, but I'm not willing to pay the same high price again in hopes of a better game. They should have at least offered a discount to first edition owners.

If I have to add the sum of anything more than 3 things, the designer failed

The fact that I have to make player aids and other tools to sped up the game is the reason I haven't bothered to play Car Wars.

I played lots of Car Wars in the '80s. I can't be bothered with playing Car Wars anymore, for several reasons:

1. Lengthy vehicle design process.
2. Somebody usually makes a significant error while designing their vehicle, and nobody knows unless there is an audit after the game.
3. Rules for changing vehicle location after a collision are difficult to interpret and often disputed.
4. Power creep in the expansions.

I'm actually looking at getting into Gaslands. It seems to be getting a lot of good buzz.

Miniatures that have a reasonable expectation of being painted.

I'm *super* tolerant to a lot of jank other people get driven crazy by. Must be my wargame roots.

CxG’s: I don’t want to buy more shit to go against power creep built into a system.

Open ended games: I don’t want to play a game that ends up a 6 hour slog of attrition. Timers or end game checks always beat out Risk and Axis and Allies.

Epic 4x’s: There has never been a board game 4x that was more satisfying than a PC version in much shorter down times. For every TI4 there’s a hundred Stellarises and Space Empires.

Kickstarters: I don’t want to pay 100 bucks or more for a game thats derivative of someone else’s game BUT WITH MINIATURES.
