TOPIC: What MOVIE(s) have you been....seeing? watching?

Re: What MOVIES have you been watching? (v2.0)

Besides watching the Christmas staple: A Christmas Story, I've been Netflixing a lot recently.

So far, watched:

The Expendables - Thoroughly enjoyed it, mindless entertainment. Bonus points for the times they were state side and I picked out the scenes shot here in New Orleans, Garden District and 9th Ward.

Hard Revenge Milly and Hard Revenge Milly: Bloody Battle: Two low-budget, post-apocalyptic Japanese live action movies. Not bad, but not real great, though.
Imperial: Yes, we released the Great Darkness... Sue us.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2:Tow Jockey 5 Second Review: Two words; master and piece. Masterpiece. Only rivaled by the first installment in the series. To be truthful the ones in the middle were a bit dull but this one truly rocked. Just great.

Yesterday, while my wife and I were lazing on the couch, we came across Out of Sight on TV. She had never seen it and I could watch that movie at least ten more times, so we caught the whole thing. Great movie, my wife loved it. Too bad movies like this either go unmade or under the radar and instead a steady stream of dross is produced instead.

Re: What MOVIES have you been watching? (v2.0)

I watched Project A last night. I'm a pretty big Jackie Chan fan and this one had some unreal stunts in it. There was one scene were he fell from a rooftop through two cloth awnings and smashed into the ground. I did a little research and apparently he actually did the stunt...he really fell from the roof to the ground...what a crazy son of a bitch! Not only that, but apparently he wasn't satisfied with the first take so he did it a few more times.

I wish the DVD was better...the picture quality was absolute shit and from what I understand it has a different musical score. Plus it has had some scenes cut. It sucks but I find this to be the case with most of Chan's DVDs. It is very rare to find his older movies on DVD with the original chinese language track and without changes to the film...usually the music.

Anywho as a Kung-fu fan this one was pretty good. Some really entertaining chase scenes on bicycles, some pretty funny/amazing fight scenes and some bad-ass sword fighting against a pirate at the end...Good stuff.

Last night my wife and I watched Mars Needs Moms. She loved it, I was sort of "meh". I'd give it a 6.

Project A is one of the greatest Jackie Chan films. The sequel is quite good as well. I think it's the sequel where he completely wracks himself reprising the awning stunt, one of his worst stunt mistakes ever (but it might be in the first one, I can't remember).

Took the kids to see Hugo in 3D yesterday. Really surprised by how well it was done, and how well the 3D fit into the picture instead of being stupid and gimmicky. I enjoyed it a lot, and my kids did as well. I'm not sure my engineering-obsessed nine-year-old even blinked for two hours.

Armour of God Pt. II was the movie. Chan fell from a high tree branch during a stunt gone wrong, and hit some other branches on the long way down.

Over the course of three different nights this week, I re-watched the Riddick trilogy. The Chronicles of Riddick had such a lousy name that I skipped it in the theater, but now it's one of my all-time favorite science-fiction movies. It's too long, but I love every minute of it. Absolutely packed with brutal action, interesting characters, odd concepts, baroque visuals, and quotable lines. It has more to offer than everything Star Wars.
