I've found the medium-ish euro I'll be gambling on. Architects of the West Kingdom is looking like a pretty interesting stab at worker placement. The worker capture mechanism and morality meter are some nifty twists on an otherwise pretty normal framework, and I generally prefer games where there isn't a dedicated recall/recovery phase. Fast turns please me. Non-wasteful boxes also please me. Here's hoping it lands.

That was my initial reaction. Then I learned that you can put other people's workers in jail so they have to bail them out and I decided that was close enough.

Seriously though, the only two player worker placement game that has worked for us has been Le Havre.

Other than that, I don’t have a top 10 list or anything. But I suspect if I were to write one down it would lean towards cards and abstracts for shorter games, with longer being a smattering of Claustrophobia, Le Havre, Sekigahara, War of the Ring, and Robinson Crusoe.

7 Wonders: Duel is nothing more than a "picnic table" game. Something you can pack along just in case you have downtime. Or just an activity for when you are super bored but also tired or too lazy for a real game. But it is devoid of excitement or drama. Plays are never memorable are they? Maybe someone got a military victory once or something. Zzzzzz...

It's fine for what it is I guess and I don't hate it. I never contemplate it with more than a shrug.

I picked up Teotihuacan, which is the new game by the designer of Tzolkin. Looks like an interesting rondel based euro, though it doesn't really have as unique a twist as the gears in Tzolkin.

Also I'm buying a copy of Conquest of Nerath from a local guy for $15 for unknown reasons. I mean the reason is because it looks neat and it's real cheap, but like that game will literally never get played. I don't know anyone who is up for Nexus Ops in a regular basis, let alone something that takes 3 times as long.

I have a review of Teotihuacan coming...I actually requested it while I was there. It’s very...charty. An intricate design, but fun? Let us know what you think...

Conquest of Nerath was not 3 times as long. It's probably about the same length. It starts in media res.

I broke down and bought a base Keyforge with a couple of extra decks. I'm very eager to see what all the fuss is about.

And as long as I was buying, I threw in Treasure Island. It looks fantastic, but more importantly, a trusted friend played it recently and gave it a good recommendation. I'm wary that it may be too group-dependent (or more accurately, anti-my-group), but we'll see.
