I picked up Desert Golfing. It's very enjoyable, even if it is a one trick pony.

I have been playing the holy hell out of 6 Nimmt or 6 Takes or whatever it's called on iOS. The AI is pretty good and playing it solo it just feels like a fun push-your-luck game.

Also a lot of Skip Bo, which is essentially a game I sometimes play with my in-laws (Spite and Malice).

PIXA is a clone-ish game of the old Atari 2600 ADVENTURE. It has great retro graphics and sounds, complete with effects to make it look like your old color TV is warping in the corners. Has a bit of snarky humor, dragons that look like ducks, etc. Mostly an exploration game. Uses an algorithm to generate levels of increasing difficulty to play as much as you like.

Card Crawl may be the ideal iPhone game... Simple and short, but with enough choices to be interesting. itunes.apple.com/us/app/card-crawl/id950955524?mt=8

Also picked up Sid Meier's Starships, but I haven't really done more than poke around a little with that.

Let us know how Starship is. I'll probably get it eventually but I'll have to clear out have my under sized iPad to load it.

I played Starships last night. I didn't really know what to expect, yet somehow I still felt disappointed. There's hardly any instructions, so I had almost no idea what I was supposed to do (I didn't feel like plodding through the game wiki). Mostly, I just built up my spaceships and attacked. It wasn't until very late in the game that I realized you could click on the planets to build upgrades to the cities and other stuff. So basically, I ignored the resource management aspect of the game with no noticeable impact.

The diplomacy screens worked just like they do in Civilization, so that made sense. There was a market screen where you could buy and sell different resources, but I never had any need to do so.

The majority of the game was turn-based starship combat. It was pretty fun, but mostly easy. I was playing on the Moderate difficulty level, but even missions where I was projected to have a "35% chance of success" seemed pretty easy. Maybe the AI just isn't very good?

I expect to play with it some more tonight, and I'll definitely delve into finding out what all the icons mean and what my options are. It was certainly easy to dive into and looked pretty great. I'd give it three out of five stars at this point.

Starbase Orion does everything Starships does, and arguably better.

The Dice Town app is out. I'd forgotten about that one. It's a great port of a fun game, but it's only solo against AI, and currently there's no way to read the cards before you need to choose them, for the Jacks/Queens ability, so that's kind of dumb. But anyway, for only $4 it's a no-brainer for me.

I call this CONFLUENCE of KICKASS. Played ascension vs hard AI. Used recent expansion with UNITE keyword and the starter. I got a score of over 3000 pts. Sounds impossible but there is a 7 cost monster you defeat that turns into a hero that has unite keyword. His ability is if you play enlighten hero draw a card, void hero gets a sword, play mechana hero and you get a $, enlightened hero gets a fame. You can play two fold Askara on him to double his power. There is a void hero that allows you to defeat monsters in the void. There is enlightened hero that allows you to defeat monster less than 4 with UNITE to copy the effect. There is enlightened hero that let's you defeat or purchase top card off the stack with UNITE so you can repeat it. There is life bound CETRA that let's you put hero on top of your deck at no cost with UNITE.
And lastly the monsters that give one or two VP per card of whatever faction you have most of in play.

So you end up getting an almost endless turn.... 2900 pts takes a little while to play one turn. You defeat the monsters that give multiplier VP in center row, then in the void, then when they resurface in center row after you went through the entire 200 card deck, and in the void again. You will have maybe 150ish cards in play, a 3 cost monster can earn 50-60 pts. Every time you play an enlightened card, most which draw on their own, triggers you to draw 2 cards. The hardest part is making sure you always have cards in your deck to draw. Anyhow, it's pretty cheesy.... But fun..

Got Boss Monster. I bought the real thing at Gen Con, played it to a chorus of shrugs, and put it on the trade pile. The iOS is free to try, so I gave it a chance. This is just a lousy game. Everything about it that could make it interesting is stunted in some way to keep your choices few and funless.

My wife plays THREES like you play Pinball. You need a 1536 to crack her top 10. And you need a 3072 to have a shot at her top score. She's been playing Solo AGRICOLA on the iPad as well and scored an 87.

87?!

She's probably triggered a recruitment algorithm just like in The Last Starfighter. Except instead of a cool alien alliance coming to task her, it'll be the Department of Agriculture.

Does Not Commute

Really fun top-down driving game, where you drive one vehicle to a destination, then another and another, all of which are occurring at the same time, so eventually you have to account for all of the other drivers that you've already played. Fun concept and the visual style is fantastic. Free to try and $2 to unlock the checkpoints.
